The fact is that the best treatment of this "mental illness", which is an incorrect description of it but we can skip that for now, is to treat them as their preferred gender and to call them by the pronouns they are most comfortable with. But the point is that the use of the word "feelings" here makes it seem as if it's someone's personal opinion and issues on a smaller scale, when it's much more in the sense of having a medical depression. Even though people keep on saying that it's just feelings and that facts don't care about your feelings, it's still a highly biological and physical issue which you don't have control over.
