Disproportionate impacts of climate change on certain areas/ways of life. In fact, I would have loved to hear more about it: faster melts in the summer are making some areas (Native spots in Canada) essentially unlivable. There were a few slides on the actual science, some data, so it wasn't completely misplaced. But we spent most of the time hearing about how important the conversation was and how we ("you," actually) needed to do and care more. And the entire time I'm thinking: I chose this ov…

The paradox, I think, is that those who are most willing to attend (edit: or feel shame after this type of article) are also the least needy of the lambasting they'll receive. The speakers will tend to be swept away by their righteous anger and not realize that the men they're talking to are the sympathetic ones. I recently went to two sessions at a scientific conference - Native rights and public health, and a talk about contraception. I was 1 of 2 men in the latter, and the only white guy in t…

I am bothered that she puts out extra effort not to write "men" but can't seem to end most of her sentences. I feel really scared because I'm incompetent I'm less bothered now - this is nearly an apology.

On the flipside, Movember also has good points. It makes people speak about health issues such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer. It also encourages the public to talk more about how mental health issues can affect men, which is beneficial because in our society it is often perceived as “weak” when men talk about their mental health, and it is important to encourage men that it is okay to talk about their feelings. Yay, ok, good. Stop there! You could argue that people that do not identif…

Folks need to be careful with using blanket accusations of guilt. They work for a while, but they quickly lose their power, and nothing's accomplished. Those who listen to them and try to comply aren't those who usually need to be hearing. As a kid, long before I had sexual thoughts about anybody, I was made to feel guilty for sexual habits I didn't even have. It was a method of control and it did work for a while; it was a leash around my neck that I couldn't remove, because I wasn't actually d…

I've met many men who lament that it took them so long to start cooking, because they enjoy it. Even as a gay guy I feel the same way - I should have been let in the kitchen sooner. But sure - it's about women.

<Nope. Not sure where you’d get that idea.>* *Editor’s note: translated from Russian.

I tend to. Having clawed my way to self-esteem after growing up as a heavily religious gay guy in the US South, I'm sensitive to judgments or commands based solely on group identity. And sure, it's my option not to wear the shoe if it doesn't fit, but I've tried playing that game before. People will shotgun out insults or commands, then retreat to "I didn't mean you, of course." You spend your entire day dodging psychological bullets that are never intended for you, but suspiciously do fly throu…

I'd like to point out that the program is called "nü men," and "nü" in Chinese pinyin is "female." So there's that.

One of my female coworkers, with whom I work closely on a daily basis and am expected to do social things with, began a thread on her facebook with "Step 1: SHUT UP." The rest was explaining that this wasn't for men and we should, well, shut up. I was drugged at a festival by an older woman who gave me a coke so I wouldn't get dehydrated. Got felt up in a portapotty and then (...?) and then was restrained by my friends on a bed because I was tripping badly and didn't know I was tripping badly. I…

When you're just so thirsty that you're willing to slice up sexual partners to make them acceptable. Maybe just pick better partners instead?

I don't know about the Weinstein thing, but I do know that we idolized Cosby as a paragon of politeness - never had to swear to be funny and all that, and he was so family oriented, just so nice. I do think it's worthwhile to teach our sons and daughters that people who have no vices can be far worse than those who do. Let's absolutely stop putting virtuous minstrelbots on pedestals.

It’s with some trepidation that we commit this to print. We know that some people won’t take us seriously; indeed, we might even be accused of taking the piss. It was a mistake to invite it. Live and learn. But despite the surface layer of toilet humour, and the implication that physics may be little more than a pissing contest, we’re making a serious point. Nah. Sometimes you have to actually forgo the fun-but-stupid route. If you want to talk about curricula, then do so, but this was a wasted …

Because people are dumbasses. I'm increasingly convinced that people will intentionally overlook jokes because they want to be contrary. Only I can make jokes. If anyone else says something that isn't accurate - it's probably not a joke but an error that needs to be corrected. The world needs my help! I know, like, two or three people whose egos are healthy enough to let others make jokes. Need better friends.

This is one of the major regrets of my life. Bus, kid who walked out of her parents' shop, and I'm in a car across the street at a stop sign. I honestly don't know if I could have done anything - it happened so fast. Kid wasn't killed, but was very hurt. But the one thing running through my head at the time was: I cannot put my hands on that child. I absolutely refuse to touch kids, because I've been told for my entire life that men are rapists who prey on children. My tastes don't run younger t…

So, I'm just trying to give you insights into the experiences of others, because the idea that people could be judgmental without cause seems alien to you. I'm not complaining that it's so bad I want to move. I wasn't trying to contradict you, but to illustrate. Your response feels really over the top.

I don't think I've ever met someone that would have a problem with you doing you as long as you're not hurting other people. This is clearest to me in the case of not having kids. Even as an out gay guy, it's a black mark on me in some conversations that I don't have and don't want kids. There's a lot of suspicion associated with not buying into that part of the societal project. Sure, childfree folks do sometimes go out of their way to be assholes - just like any minority group - but there's al…

Being a gay guy, I'm very aware of the difference and how that difference translates into experience, appearance, etc. I know preferences differ, and I know what I prefer, and I do not personally have what I prefer. I feel like my parents had a doctor cut off a part of my body when I was born, which would have persisted into adulthood otherwise. To the extent I've been able to restore, I've felt better.
/r/MensRights13/06/17 06:01 PM

I’m so sorry I’m scared now. I was joking and it was my friend not me I didn't even do the thing I'm sorry for, but I was joking when my friend did it.

The funny thing it's, there's movie theaters that are not gender exclusive showings. The US already tried separate but equal. It seems alright in this case because it's only a movie, but in practice it's unworkable and rapidly leads to separate and definitely not equal. All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, and privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimina…

Yes, they're getting their knickers in a twist because of a woman-only screening. Even if everything before the last sentence were unambiguously true and indefensible, one thing being wrong doesn't mean anything else is right.
