My sentiment exactly. He’s trying to come across as woke and open-minded but only succeeded in convincing me he’s the complete opposite. Such an utter FAIL.

Solid point here. I feel like coffee dates are fine IF they're suggested by the woman, for exactly the reason you gave (first date vetting). But if the guy himself suggests it as a first date I'd be really wary (especially because the one coffee first date I went on, pre-FDS, was with a guy who insisted on it, and it was by and far the worst first date I've had and very much fit the FDS reasoning to avoid them).

As someone who's nearly 30, I completely agree. It's a huge factor in why I'm apathetic to dating despite my current "critical" age, and additionally why I never capitalized on being a "PYT" in my earlier twenties/late teens. I live in L.A., and this city is filled to the brim with these kinds of creepy, youth-exploiting men. So I nearly always said no to certain modeling gigs, free stuff, and special treatment of all kinds when I was younger. I simultaneously didn't want to give sleazy, ageist …

I’ve had only 2 men I’ve been with feed me some variation of this line. The first said I was so much smarter/more articulate than other women, and the second said I was the only funny girl he’d ever met. Go figure, both ended up being the most abusive men I’ve ever been involved with. At the time, I was so damn flattered when they said it too, because I truly didn’t understand (or want to understand) the underlying hostile undertone of these comments. But that hostility definitely surfaced later…

This is what frustrates me to no end, especially when speaking to older generations about struggling with dating. I'm in no way glorifying past eras for women, they were rife with their own issues, but at the very least, casual sex was not really an option then. You basically had to commit to the woman to get anything sexual from her, so go figure - men committed with the utmost of ease. Not like today, though, when you're "lucky" to even get a mere girlfriend title, and if you do, it's hard as …

I can't decide if these kinds of men have just been so spoiled growing up that they're this deluded into thinking they truly deserve a Margot Robbie type when they look like a poor man's Seth Rogen with a crappy personality to boot, or if they're just deeply closeted and this is some kind of weird projection so as not to blow their cover ("It's not that I don't want women, it's that women don't want ME!"). I think it's both. But either way...it really needs to stop.

As an adult I found out that my maternal grandfather (who was a very rich and fairly powerful businessman in his younger years) wanted to marry my grandmother, who didn't want to marry him. But because of his position, he ultimately got his way (I'm fuzzy on exactly how this happened - I don't think the marriage was actually arranged but something close). Age has softened my grandfather so much it was so hard for me to picture this. But apparently he used to be a real shark in business and appli…

Why can't so many men carry a conversation/have conversational etiquette for shit? It's the pandemic nobody really addresses. It's exhausting.

I had a huge crush on this one guy in high school and he recently got into contact with me. He was 2 years younger than me so he's 26. He's still cute and aged well overall but his hair is nearly gone. It's so strange - I wonder if this is some environmental thing, or these guys just partied too hard and the wear-and-tear from that made them lose hair prematurely? He's hardly the first 20-something guy I've seen with this issue. It's definitely a thing and it's so odd.

YES! I’m 28 and my mom is in her 50s, and it’s our mutual favorite show. I love that they depict the later stages of a woman’s life in such an upbeat, fashionable, and refreshing way (compared to the usual tired grandma media stereotype). Long live Grace and Frankie!

This. I'm 28, and I can't speak for every city or social circle (since these kinds of trends differ among them), but I've observed quite a lot of couples among people I know who got together in their very early 20s, had relationships that were somehow lacking/were likely not gonna end in marriage, and they broke up juuuust before they hit 30. It was usually that one or both parties realized, after years together, they were incompatible long-term, and they parted ways before getting more deeply i…

I will never get over how men blurt these things out and people think it's fine and forgivable. It's not, and it's a huge red flag. Ladies, RUN when men do this! These comments are NOT HARMLESS! One of my high school friends was wonderful to me when we first met and for the first few years of our friendship, but then, suddenly, always going out of her way to pick fights, insult me, and exclude me from outings. I eventually couldn't take it anymore and cut ties. Found out years later, through her…

Absolutely, and this needs to be emphasized more. I always beat myself up for ending up with these types when I was younger, but it’s these men who know how to manipulate women best.

It looks like a treat, you can train dogs to balance a treat on their nose without immediately tossing it off and eating it. Not my dog though, she could never reach that level of discipline 😂 I’m really impressed with OP’s pup!

Same. People tend to just read the very, very general definition and make incorrect assumptions about demisexuality simply meaning “normal”...it’s more complicated than that, and most people aren’t actually truly demisexual. It falls on the asexuality spectrum for a reason.

I remember one of my friends from high school, who’s a gorgeous girl and a very successful model these days, posted a meme that said something like “I don’t want your boyfriend. No one wants your boyfriend. That’s why he’s with you.” Had to fan my eyes. Such an epic comeback for these kinds of deluded Pickmeishas. 😂😭

EXACTLY. I’ve privately felt this for years but didn’t want to be accused of slut shaming. But let’s call a spade a goddamn spade: rampant casual sex only really empowers men and overwhelmingly just screws women over. I don’t have ONE friend who looks back fondly on her “slut phase” - it was overwhelmingly mediocre sex, accidental pregnancy/STD scares (or those things actually happening), and catching feelings for men who didn’t give a shit about them and made that disgustingly clear, leaving th…

Thank you for validating me, sis. It especially means a lot because she would frequently freak out and gaslight me if I pointed these things out to her and acted like I was being hypersensitive or crazy. I'd try to leave the friendship via distance after these events because I knew a formal "I don't want to be your friend anymore", blocking her, etc. would make her somehow explosively retaliate (she's shown me a very ugly vengeful side before, over very minor things). She'd notice me distancing …

Ugh, agreed. I can't pinpoint exactly when it started but some years ago, I actually started wearing super baggy, neutral clothes that completely mask my figure, making me look much boxier/heavier than I really am to combat this problem. I used to get constantly complimented on my fashion from other women; my wardrobe is now very dowdy and grandma-ish. It's actually sort of depressing and even my mom has critically pointed it out ("You used to dress so nice, what happened?!"). But I have a sort …

I feel this so hard. This unqualified coach crap is practically an epidemic these days. I did the same with a friend of mine earlier this year who's a "life coach" - the advice I've seen her extend is absolutely damaging garbage, like constant encouragement of rampant casual sex with whoever being empowering and great for women (one of the things I adore about this sub is that it doesn't feed women this absolute lie). And she charges similar insane rates for her "wisdom" - it's basically a socia…

In my late teens and early 20s, I remember I used to review a lot on Yelp, purely because I like to write and scratch the backs (so to speak) of local, independent businesses I enjoy. Totally innocuous and just a nice way to kill time (basically recommending businesses I liked via reviews). I ended up getting an Elite badge offer from the site (which is a total scam, by the way, but that's a story for another time). But having the badge required you to have a real profile picture of yourself, so…

Agreed. I've found that HVM have a "don't ask, don't tell" kind of policy for both themselves and the women they're with. On the other hand, I was with a LVM who would GRILL me about my sexual past (which is actually pretty tame compared to most, but he kind of made it clear he believed I'd been with tons of people and was much more sexually active than I was). Rookie mistake - I actually answered some of his questions, feeling uncomfortable AF, until eventually I just told him point blank I'm n…

I live in L.A. and was working retail in college; she came into our store somewhat regularly, and she was one of the rudest customers I've ever encountered, truly. Not a fan of her at all, how you treat people in customer service roles says a lot and homegirl is not one of the good ones IME. Looks like she has low values across the board.

Emphasis on this. Snapchat has a shitty/sleazy reputation for a reason. I was in an unofficial LDR this year with a British guy (I'm American) and I'm absolutely convinced he had an unclaimed/covert GF, because we mostly communicated on IG (DMs, IG video chats) and I remember at one point he specifically asked me if I had Snapchat. Alarm bells went off like damn sirens in my head the minute he said that. I was in my final Pickmeisha form at the time (earlier this year) so I entertained talking t…

Damn, I love this sub. Always thought dudes who fetishized the hell out of Asian women/culture were creepy AF and had a major screw loose, but whenever I expressed that to people, I'd get blank stares. I was once briefly involved with a guy who fit this bill and he was a gun-crazed/collecting conservative wacko (for a period, he always posted a pro-gun rant after every major shooting, pretty distasteful) who was also insanely clingy and needy and called me Pumpkin as a pet name within days of me…

"Did I freak out? Cry? Tell him it was unfair after all the times I went to see him? Point out he was becoming increasingly detached and critical of me? Nope. I didn't say a word. I simply blocked him and deleted him from my contacts. I didn't bother to address it or give him a chance to play the card about women being crazy, emotional, or sensitive." This, this, and THIS. I learned this lesson the hard way in the past. You are a queen!

Glad I'm not the only one who finds this presumptuous AF and not exactly romantic. I consider a first holiday dinner with family to be an important relationship milestone, and I'd feel kind of invaded if a guy just showed up uninvited expecting to be a part of it without asking, especially if we weren't even formally dating and he was just some schlub I hooked up with a few times. My family can be horribly dysfunctional or really warm/funny/awesome (depends on the day/amount of alcohol being ser…

Your partner is demonstrating what psychology calls resilience theory - basically coming out relatively undamaged by consistent adversity. It's rare, but it's a really beautiful thing. Glad to see you've found it within your partner and that you're in the kind of relationship people strive for. :)

100%, I was livid with him for doing that. Once again, it's fuzzy because it was a while ago, but I do remember texting him and being like, dude WTF?! (Both in regards to him putting my business on blast and his roommate being a heartless nutcase.) I almost feel like it was like some shady, calculated thing between the two of them, like they were thinking I'd be easy prey due to my shattered emotional state/self-esteem. He definitely didn't have my best interest at heart when telling his obnoxio…

Thank you for the support, sis, I appreciate it. <3 I'm sorry you went through that too. But yeah, it's nuts that neither of us were rude or even personal when we rejected these guys...and it was still enough to make them explode. And as your post proves, it's not even just youthful stupidity. The entitlement never ends with these ones. Bullets dodged and lesson learned!

I remember once in college, fairly shortly after a horrible breakup, a friendly classmate set me up with his roommate, who also went to school with us. The guy seemed like my type overall, but I recall the date he'd planned was something like him asking me to come over and he'd cook us dinner and we'd watch a movie (y'all already know, SMH). I think I tried to gently suggest he actually take me out somewhere and he wasn't having it and just kept trying to convince me to come over for the dinner/…
