Ok but in this case Chris doesn't want to "press charges". So a violent crime is just allowed to happen with no consequences because the state won't do its job. The state should step in and, ya know, actually uphold the law maybe? But that's not going to happen it seems.

The problem is government agents can deprive Americans of their rights all they want until someone goes through the process of challenging it which can take years and cost way more than 99% of people could afford without a lawyer taking the case pro bono. But technically they're not supposed to and can face serious consequences for doing so.

The point was that it was clearly demonstrated that the student's speech didn't meet the court's disruption threshold because he had worn it on multiple occasions and yet still no disruption was created. That more he wears it without it causing a disruption the stronger his case is that it's clearly protected speech. Nothing in the article said that. It specifically said that students have the same Constitutional rights as every other American, that school admins can't even trivially infringe on those rights, but that free speech is somewhat limited in schools only if it causes such a disruption to the operation of the school that it makes it difficult to function normally. Possessing a video or saying a word clearly don't meet that standard.

I obviously didn't say that. At the very least she should be on probation and closely monitored for years with mandatory therapy sessions to try to control her dangerous nature. But as an adult if she does something like this again she should get life without parole given that she had the best possible opportunity to improve and she proved she's incapable of not hurting people.

You can sue anyone for any reason. Whether you're successful is another matter. But since the civil court system is so fundamentally broken (almost entirely because of the absurd cost of attorneys) you can basically extort people and make them pay you even if your case isn't great. You just have to have more money than them. It can take years and hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to fight someone, so most people just give up and pay.
