I would always argue for honesty. That doesn't mean you have to tell him more than you need, but always be open and honest with him if he asks. Look at it from his side. If he asks you a question and you appear to be trying to hide something he will trust you less. If you just answer him honestly (but not excessively) you will build trust with him.
