Because credibility is an issue. Evidence degrades. People have the right to a speedy trial specifically because it’s very difficult to defend yourself against an old accusation. Describe, please, in as much detail as you can, the events of February 12th, 2002. That’s not a reasonable expectation. Not at all. I just don’t see the benefit to passing “feel-good” legislation just so we can be seen to be “doing something”. I think real solutions are too complex for sound bytes and so they make poor fodder for campaign commercials.

You could think in terms of the global marketplace when passing laws, and realize that all the well-intentioned legislation in the world isn’t going to make water run uphill. That raising your minimum wage to the sky is only going to force low-paying jobs to move overseas. That outlawing the raising of opium poppies and coca leaves is just going to create entire national economies dedicated to their cultivation and smuggling them into your country. You can live in reality.

One set of laws for the rich and another for the poor doesn’t matter? Honestly, I’m not sure why we even let poor people vote. The cool thing is, if only rich peoples’ kids are circumcised, it becomes a status symbol. Pretty soon a guy with a foreskin can’t get a bj to save his life, and a whole generation of kids are performing their own britot in their garages with x-acto knives. Unless the parents can afford, like, airfare. That’s the problem with these ill-considered feel-good measures. When you outlaw abortion, it only affects poor girls. Rich girls fly somewhere it’s legal and do it there. Will be the same with this.

If I had been allowed to choose for myself starting at, say, age seven, I'd have wanted myself medically altered to be a giant bionic T-Rex. Now that I'm an adult, I still feel that would have been an excellent decision and would still go for it given the chance.
