I’ve had multiple patients at the clinic I work at who have had significant changes to their cycle after the vaccine. For some, they bleed so much heavier and more frequently, and others haven’t had a period for months despite not being pregnant. Some of them got the vaccine as part of planning to get pregnant and wanting to protect themselves and the baby as much as possible, and now they’re struggling with (hopefully temporary) fertility issues. But I’m not allowed imply or suggest that the va…

Honestly, I think it’s important to withhold information about what it is you WANT; but I only mean certain kinds of wants. I’ll gladly share that I want a career in medicine, or I want to break 315 on my deadlift, or that I want to buy a Glock 43x so I can hold more rounds in one mag. I’m not going to share what qualities I want in a man, or that I want to get married and have a family one day, or that I’d like to eventually have a home with a yard and a dog in X city. I’m not going to tell a m…

I’m a white American, and I speak Spanish; not perfectly (I learned as an adult),but well enough that a lot of the single Hispanic guys I interact with are eager to ask me out. Though sometimes I would like to say yes to a date, I usually say no because I’m worried about the potential problems for the reasons you mentioned. I don’t know the attitudes toward women (or white women) in their country, and I also feel like they’re only interested because in my area it’s a novelty to find a white pers…

As far as fitness, FitnessBlender on Youtube or their website by the same name is amazing. Home workouts, tons of free videos with many different types of workouts, workouts ranging from 10 minutes to 2 hours, and they even have an option to sort videos by difficulty. They are the reason I got into fitness for the sake of being strong and healthy, not just to be skinny. I can not recommend their site enough for women who want to start exercising but either don’t know how or are too shy to go to …

They don’t hear my verbal no. So when they say “She just needs to say no,” I assume they must mean that I need to be capable of saying no with my fists, which they definitely aren’t counting on with us. Well guess what scrote? I know we shouldn’t have to use violence to protect ourselves from men who don’t listen to “no.” I know it shouldn’t be up to us to punish them for it. The justice system is supposed to do that. But they won’t. They will let men get away it’s it almost every time, and the …

They will absolutely report if they think it will help the regain the power they think belongs to them. “Oh she threatened to whoop my ass if I don’t leave her alone? Better try to use the law to show her that she doesn’t have the right to deny me.” “She’s not reacting how I want and making me feel like THE MAN?! Well, if only she had acknowledged me, I wouldn’t have had to punish her with HR drama.”

Probably that I threatened him, lol. Which to be fair, I totally did, but I more considered it warning him of the consequences of escalating his harassment. Completely justified, and I knew no cop would take issue with that, especially in a Stand Your Ground state, in a city with a high crime rate.

Perhaps if it’s done through a sperm bank, it may be safe… I just don’t trust men not to take advantage or use the child as a tool to manipulate you. For instance, perhaps the man will get the idea that he’s entitled to your body since you already had his kid anyway. Or think that he should have rights to access to the child or rights to some amount of decision making power. Or feel that he should get a say in who you date or spend time with since they’re around “his kid.” Maybe the man will nee…

When I was in college some weirdo came up to me in the store and said “hey baby you want somebody to buy them groceries for you?” I told him no and walked away. He followed me, I turned and told him that I wasn’t interested and to leave me alone. He waited a few minutes and then found me AGAIN, at which point I told him that I had already told him to leave me alone, and I could and would break his scrawny ass if he forced my hand. He did the whole “damn bitch I was just trying to be nice” routin…

I would say definitely do not do this with a male friend or someone you know… go the sperm bank route. What kind of single man is HV enough to create and raise a child with, but not HV enough to earn your love and trust and commitment? While some separated couples are capable of coparenting quite well, it’s still not easy. If you want to go the single mother route, I think you’d be better off having sole decision making power rather than taking a chance on a friend who may not be a good coparent…

It also means that woman-specific medicines just don’t get developed. Except birth control. But that one benefits men so I guess it was worth the extra work.🙄

Because nobody likes to have women in their trials because we have too many moderating/confounding variables. And nobody likes to have anything other than healthy people in their prime in initial trials because they’re most likely to survive adverse effects and produce attractive data. 🙃

Ha, violent? Only if we need to defend ourselves. I even tell self defense students “We are teaching you to defend against someone larger and stronger than you, because if you are physically attacked, it will almost certainly be a male attacker.” Shitty men perpetuate violence. Shitty mean are the reason we carry weapons to defend ourselves. Shitty men are the reason we have to learn to physically defend ourselves. Shitty men are who we are trying to avoid here.

Every relationship that has started with “sparks” or “butterflies” for me has been bad. Those guys were absolutely lovebombing me or taking advantage of an emotional vulnerability. The sparks turned into “jfc I just wanna be left alone for a day!” But the best relationship I’ve had started with a kind of… instant chemistry. It was really easy to talk to him, I genuinely enjoyed it and was interested in what he had to say. I wanted to spend more time with him; it didn’t feel like a chore that I w…

My ex was like that. He was actually the first person to make me realize that I could be a feminist without being a libfem. I made some joke about how “us ladies can get a little crazy sometimes,” and his response was that no, they’ve been hurt and given a reason not to trust, but their completely rational and expected responses get them called crazy and used against them. Throughout our relationship he demonstrated that same level of awareness and reflection, but didn’t act like the fake-woke S…

The way I feel about it is that it sucks, I hate that it works, but it does, and sometimes a woman has to capitalize on it for her financial health. When I was bartending, I felt I had to put on makeup and glam up and really put on a show and entertain, sometimes at the expense of getting other stuff done at work. And when I became a manager I quit glamming up, wore more natural makeup, and started wearing my glasses so that patrons would be more inclined to respect me as the boss. Did I totally…

This is completely stupid! Sure, let’s go practice on unconscious people who did not and would not consent to this! Wanna give your med students some practice? Hold a weekend clinic and offer free pelvic exams, and free/low cost paps! Hell, hold a few of them on different weekends in different neighboring cities. The number of women who very much want this care, even if it’s for teaching students, and who don’t have access or means is astronomical. Students don’t HAVE to learn every aspect of me…

Pro tip: the days that the grief decides to pop up and smack you, journal about how awful you feel. Later, when you may be tempted to view him in a positive light or even reach out, go back and read how you felt. He could be great, but how he made YOU feel…. Because trust me, if you try again he will make you feel the same way… again! Thank you! And good luck to you!

I’m in your boat! The man I loved and thought I was going to marry had some kind of existential crisis and didn’t want to be with me anymore. My dumb ass gave him a second chance because I could truly empathize and had experienced the exact same thing, and he’s in a tough spot. And also because i LoVeD hIm. Ha. He then put in zero effort and became flaky and unreliable where he wasn’t before, and I guess was counting on my empathy and love to keep me around. I finally started believing his actio…

Congrats on taking your freedom back! I hope you enjoy the hell out of your new life! Also, you said you don’t have money for a firearm, but I’ve seen some comfortably sized revolvers for around $150; I’m not sure if you’ve already looked at anything in that price bracket, but maybe that would be more attainable to save for? I’m not at all trying to imply anything about your finances or financial choices, I just want you to not be discouraged if you’ve only come across $300-$400 firearms so far.…

Keep your eyes on his hands and feet. Can you see both hands? Is one hand holding something? Is he making fists? What kind of stance is he in? Is he suddenly shifting his weight like he’s preparing to fight? Those are huge tells when dealing with a man who you’re worried will become violent. If you’re too focused on his face, it’s easy to miss the things he will actually try to hurt you with, which are hands and feet. And I think it’s awesome you scared him by threatening to call the cops, but a…

Lol they all try at some point. My first ex (who cheated on me and the girl before me) made an Instagram to reach out to me nearly four years later, since he was blocked everywhere else. #2 reached out after a month, completely convinced that he was going to win me back by reminding me of the “good times,” completely ignoring that I dumped him because his insane jealousy and insecurity made him almost nonfunctional. #3 made a fake Facebook to message me four months later and started out by prete…

I like the app Owaves for scheduling the day in chunks of time. The smallest chunk you can do is 15 minutes, but you could give yourself a couple of 15 minute blocks every few hours to do phone stuff. The app Forest is also great for making you stay off your phone. You set your goal time, and if you leave the app during that time, your tree dies and you have to start over. If you have an iphone, the screen time feature allows you to set time limits for individual apps, and you can schedule parts…

Yes! I hate the “you’re so mature” thing. I was told how mature I was by every adult I knew for my entire life, so when some older LVM pulled that one on me, I believed it. I had undiagnosed and untreated ADHD until last year. Those adults perceived maturity because I wasn’t interested in other people my age or the things they were interested in. Sure, I may have been a but more mature in certain aspects because of things at home, but I maturity is not the reason I was so different from my peers…

I’ll be 24 in a few days, and if I could start back at 20, the number one thing I would change is I would not date. I dated all four years of college, and all those exes did was distract me and get in the way of my goals. When I needed to study, they got mad that they weren’t getting my attention. When I tried to do extracurriculars, they would get mad that they weren’t “the most important person in my life” and find reasons to dislike my friends; they made it such an ordeal that I started to av…

Holy shit ruuuun! I dated a guy like this in college- acted like me dating someone (only one guy) before him and existing prior to him was a literal personal attack. Would say things like “Well you should have waited for your future husband!” (meaning him-lol no). “How could you give and do so much for your shitty ex, when that should have been for guys like meeeeee?!” He expected me to apologize for these things and to work extra hard to “make up for my past.” He would have a mini tantrum and b…

That part cracked me up. The Victorian era? Get a grip. If women found super revealing clothing sexy on men, it would have become the norm. But we don’t! We like button downs with the sleeves rolled up, collared shirts with a couple buttons undone, well fitted shirts that accentuate shoulders and pecs without looking painted on, pants that are fitted and not obscene, etc. We like men who look out together and like they give a damn about the impression they make. If men wanna wear booty shorts th…

Serious question.... if a woman critically injures/kills a man in self defense (say, to stop an attempted/active rape situation), would she be believed and let off because she acted in self defense? Would they say we can’t prove we didn’t consent, that there was a threat to our life or safety, that we had sufficient cause to fear for our lives? Would we be tried for murder? Would they still give the man the benefit of the doubt and value him over us? I’m so sorry you didn’t get justice. He deser…

I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but please consider contacting your local women’s shelter, even if you don’t need a place to stay. They often have counseling, support groups, and legal advocates to help you along in the process of getting away from an abuser. You may feel tempted to speak to him or be with him again; just remember that the man you thought he was is not only dead, but never existed. You NEVER deserve to be abused, no matter what you do, and his abuse is not a result of your acti…

Whoa you got sex ed at 16? They stopped it after middle school for us. Even my anatomy and physiology class only got as far as the teacher telling the girls it’s not worth it, don’t trust these boys, wait until you’re educated and stable to give them the time of day. And their idea of teaching consent is a fucking joke. Bad ass! And also, with iPhones you can set screen time restrictions and lock them with your own password, or control it remotely if you share an account. You can even restrict amount of communication with certain contacts. And as far as learning about sex, I hope schools are teaching more thoroughly now. This is something I’m worried about if I ever have children. But I have to say, I think the biggest thing that would have made a difference for me, and especially for my younger brother, is if my mother had lived by standards and boundaries. If I recall, I believe he actually only splits groceries with her and has been putting all the other money she gives him aside so that she will have it in the future. He said in his post that he doesn’t need or want her to split bills but she insisted, and in some comments he said he figured it would come in handy for her to have extra money for all the expensive baby stuff once the baby is born. As far as locks, definitely rekey and replace the strike plate screws, but also, you can have a deadbolt installed that locks and unlocks only from the inside. The other side of the door won’t even have a plate to indicate that you have a lock there. You could probably even get one that uses a key on the locking side so that only you are capable of locking it after you do a walk through of your home to ensure that you are alone. This is a pretty normal question among people in the US. I think delivery matters though... asking it in a polite and friendly way, and dropping it if you give a vague answer or no answer is harmless I believe. Pressing the matter is another issue entirely, and should be met with swift consequences. But I translate for Spanish speakers in the US and I frequently ask where they’re from when I encounter an accent I’m not used to or struggle with, for no other reason than pure curiosity. It can have a more far reaching effect on nearly every aspect of your life than most people realize; it’s not just trouble focusing at school. Hey, you’re not “former gifted” anything. You’re still gifted, and you still have potential; you just fell off the horse for a bit, and now you’re getting back on it to try again. And sometimes falling off the horse is what it takes for us to become who we need to be. Your experience and perspective will be so valuable for those women because you will be able to relate in a way others can’t. I know it will be difficult for you, but you can do it. It is a miracle, and I totally understand your opinion! But I know a lot of women who would have a harder time coping with losing visible pieces of their bodies, and knowing they’d have the choice to return to looking the way they’re used to would be welcome. I also have a friend who preemptively had a double mastectomy because of how many women in her family had breast cancer, but she wouldn’t have if she couldn’t have had her breasts rebuilt. So, fuck this whole breast enlargement to appeal to…

I don’t love the reason most women get breast implants, but I do think it’s great that women who either have to have single or double mastectomies or choose to have them because of cancer can have their breasts reconstructed! And I’m sure knowing they have the option makes it a little easier for them to make the best decision for their health.

Yeah I never take mine off before going to work out. The days I work on the heavy bag I leave the gym looking a mess; last thing I’d do is put on makeup just for that. Yes! We’re grown, intelligent women. We know why makeup came about, and we also know why we personally like to wear it. We aren’t misogynists; we aren’t “the problem.” It’s not wrong for us to simply like something. It’s our choice, and it is absolutely possible for us to have motivations for wearing makeup that don’t stem from catering to men or patriarchy. I agree with you. I’m not denying that makeup as a whole was originally intended to cater to the male gaze, but to say that I’m full of shit if I say I do it because I like it and I think it’s a fun hobby and way to express myself is patronizing. The Y chromosome likely doesn’t do very much actually. Of course, studies are done on mice and rabbits and such, we can’t even begin to think of doing this research in people. But the most important gene on the Y chromosome is the sex determining region of Y (SRY). This is what initiates male sexual differentiation. When this gene is knocked out or inhibited, the XY embryo will develop as a female, and will have only small differences from an XX female, such as smaller ovaries and fewer follicle…

Yes! I think something a lot of people don’t realize are that CPAs are not bookkeepers. They usually have too much other shit to do to be going over everything you do with a fine toothed comb, and they bill a much higher hourly rate than a dedicated bookkeeper. And poor bookkeeping can mess up the PnL and cost a lot of money at tax time when the bookkeeper for the CPA firm has to untangle the mess a business makes of their books. It’s fun how after years of sports and strength training, men find me scary. And the men I’ve worked with or been friends with have shown me more respect because of my strength and the additional capabilities that come with it.
