Why is that?

I get your point of view. And no, having a lower libido doesn’t mean your needs are being met. Some women have a lower libido precisely because they don’t get much pleasure from intimacy. But I get the frustration because I once was the higher libido partner. It sucked, but ultimately, the reason I left is because I knew it couldn’t be fixed and I was hopeless.

It was getting better (his words). I came to see that he was trustworthy which in turned helped me relax into intimacy. I booked an appointment with a sexologist and I will try and book one with a pelvic floor therapist too. I said that issues are partly solved within a loving relationship, emphasis on the partly. Which of course implies that as adults, we can’t count on other people to fix us (unlike bad kids who fully rely on their parents), and we need to put it a substantial amount of work o…

Indeed. As I mentioned, I’d been expecting it

When we started dating, he was still studying and he assumed that he could find a job that he liked in the country, or a job that allowed for at least a few days per week of remote working. He didn’t have a clear idea of the state of the job market in our country, and if anything, it has changed for the worst over the last couple of years, with companies closing down, reducing possibilities for remote working and slowing down recruitments.

Just in case you’re not being obtuse on purpose, I mentioned cheating in the context of getting back together

I don’t think it’s particularly unfair and I understand his perspective. I also don’t think, indeed, that he’s been consciously using me for the past three years. And yes, I’m planning on working on myself. But me saying I wouldn’t take him back is not (just?) me being stubborn, it’s mostly due to fear of setting a precedent that might make cheating appear a little less risky and a little less immoral to him. I also wish that he’d taken that time to reflect on his behavior, like I did. Many wome…

It was a mutual decision

I know? Which is why I refused to make that sacrifice and we broke up

No you’re right because I slept on it and now I’ve accepted that I’m single

You’re right. I’ve been hesitant but now is probably a good time to have open-hearted conversations.

There are sacrifices I’m willing to make for a husband (not a boyfriend of course).

I do intend to get into therapy, but I also think (and so does he) that such issues are also partly solved within a loving relationship. Just like I’ve been patient with him while he was in college and I paid for everything, sort of. He’s mostly clueless about how to act with me to arouse me. One thing I know for certain is that telling me about his intention to sleep with other women isn’t helping.

I’ve always wanted to live a simple life in the country, while his job requires him to live closer to cities, and possibly move from time to time.

Thanks a lot for your comment. I feel like such techniques would help a lot. He’s a kind and considerate person but quite frankly he’s a bit sexually illiterate due to being inexperienced and it’s making it hard for him to accommodate for my issues in that particular area. For instance, I’ve never told him about the sexual trauma I’ve been through, but I know that he doesn’t suspect it at all, has never thought about sexual trauma and how common and detrimental it can be, and wouldn’t know how t…

Also, even though older women are less “perfect” looking than younger women, I’ve often found them a lot more attractive due to their life experience and the personality they’ve developed over the years.

I don’t know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. Most of my family members are divorced and those who are in long lasting relationships are miserable, usually due to the guy being an alcoholic, a cheater or just a plain jerk. I’ve never lived it either, we much as I’ve loved my partners it’s never been smooth and easy and it has often been destructive, abusive, painful and difficult. I do know a few people who seem happy in love but they either don’t live together, don’t have children, and/or have…

Damn. I’m in the second case. I had a low libido for a few weeks because of external factors and my boyfriend complained about it instead of trying to be understanding. He would take it personally, sulk, and tell me that he wouldn’t be able to stay in a relationship long term if things didn’t change. I feel like it stems from a lack of knowledge about how female libido and sexuality work but it still gave me the ick. Now I’m on the verge of tears whenever we have sex and I’m struggling really ha…
