I'm on mobile, so let me know if you want citations and I'll add them when I get to a computer :) -Married men live longer than single or separated men, but married women don't live longer than single women. -Following separation, men tend to remarry more quickly than women, and are more likely to remarry in general. -Men tend to "fall in love" faster than women, and tend to be more emotionally affected by breakups. These statistics imply that men "need" women more than women "need" men. However…

This is definitely a gross generalization and not true. I'm 23 (educated and attractive) and neither me nor my girlfriends are promiscuous. There are plenty of young women who "get around" sexually, but not even close to all (or even half) are like that. Maybe this is a common belief because those types of girls tend to be attention-seeking, so it's easier to notice their behavior and harder to notice the girls who aren't throwing themselves at men?

Hi wonderful ladies!! I've been lurking around the past few months :) I'm a 23F PhD student, and am in a 2 year relationship with an amazing 28M! This is such a great sub, and I am so glad to have found you all. I'm naturally very red pill, so finding a community like this is amazing! My colleagues are all SJWs, and for a while I was feelin self-conscious about my femininity. But finding RPW is helping me feel so much comfier in my own skin!

Thankfully I'm sure that's not the case! Once in a while I'll end up at the gym during his usual gym-time, and he's always there...plus he has been pushing me to join him, but I've been hesistant to switch from my own routine. His workouts are the "other woman", and that's the problem :P

Thank you for the little reality check :) I'm still not very good at asserting myself, and even though I don't want to force tough decisions on him (e.g., choosing between extra long workouts and better relationship quality), it's nice to be reminded that I'm not crazy for having expectations and standards. Hopefully I can keep your words in mind while we sort this out moving forward!

Thank you for your input. I can see how my post might lead you to that conclusion, but the gym issue is only a small aspect of our relationship right now. I know this isn't the case and I'm not worried about him leaving. FWIW--and I don't mean this in a negative way toward my SO at all--my SMV/RMV are higher than his (and any other woman he's dated), and his hours at the gym are not spent on aesthetics. He also spends plenty of time showing me how important our relationship is to him. So I'm onl…

Haha, that's okay so was I! Just thought I'd share so that we can both learn :) And thank you for the thread link, it was super helpful in learning about the side effects, etc.

Thank you for pushing me to talk to him about this. He sleeps 10 hours a night, which makes the over-exercising-induced exhaustion much scarier to me. I workout too, but I'm a fencer while he does calisthenics. He wants me to start doing calisthenics (he criticizes any other type of workout), but it makes me so dizzy and nervous. I think I'll start going to the gym to stretch with him once in a while as a compromise, even though that's only a teeny part of his overall workout :) Do you have advi…

Thank you for the insight. He's definitely working out and not socializing, which is why I'm worried about it. It is not a good idea to push yourself hard without resting. The reduced sex drive issue is caused by excessive workouts. That's the biggest issue: he's so exhausted all the time and it's taking a toll on his life/our relationship. I'll probably voice my concern about his exhaustion and lack of sex drive, but I'll let him choose how he wants to address that concern. If this continues fo…

Alkyl nitrites are "poppers" used in the gay community, while ammonia inhalants have stimulant effects and are used by athletes. It's definitely the latter...when I responded to your first comment I wasn't paying close enough attention >.<

Thank you for the reassurance! And I will definitely start getting more involved--even if it's limited to my comfort level--since he would like to share this with me :)

Thank you for the reassurance! From your response and u/BaronSly's input, I'm going to take a deep breath and give this some time to settle. If this is a stable and temporary pattern and you're sure he's actually working out at the gym, then this pattern will probably evolve to a new equilibrium soon. You've probably hit the nail right on the head. It's only been about 2 months and it will smooth over with time. I'm sure he's at the gym...we bump into each other now and again ;) being busy with …

Yeah, that definitely makes sense that the long gym hours would be alright if he was adequately fueling his workouts. He's lean/muscular with no discernible fat, but he wants to be leaner to improve performance (?). Thank you so much for your response!! I'll definitely let him problem-solve on his own, but I may express my concern over the smelling salts. Especially with your input, it sounds dangerous and I am worried about him using them when he's running-on-empty :(

Wait, maybe I'm wrong then. The package says "ammonia inhalant"? It's definitely a stimulant used by athletes, not a muscle relaxant.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response :) I'm okay with 1.5-2 hour gym times. I feel like it's my duty to make more sacrifices and take care of household chores so he doesn't have to. However, you are correct that this interference with our quality time/sex life is not okay with me...but I'm notoriously bad at setting boundaries or asserting myself. Can you help me out on how to approach this? Should I set hard boundaries (e.g., "you can't come over after 9:30 because then we're both tir…

He's splitting up his routine, but he only has one "rest" day a week. Can I pick your brain, since you're hardcore into working out, too? I honestly agree that he's overworking himself, and he's recently cut out most carbs, deciding he doesn't need them. How would you feel about your girlfriend bringing this sort of thing up? I don't want to seem controlling or nag him, so should I leave it for him to figure out or suggest more carbs and more rest? Also, do you think the whole "smelling salts" u…

Thank you! Woah, yeah that may be an issue. I could have been done more tactful when I approached him. He was very reassuring, but I probably didn't make it clear that feeling sexually desired is different than being loved/snuggled.

Thank you for affirming that it's legitimate. I have told him, and he is making other efforts (more cuddling, calling more often, etc.) to reassure me. I guess I'm concerned since this is such a new change and he seems so stressed about it. The only incompatibility would be if he continues to be so exhausted all the time, since it means our time together has really suffered in quality :(

Yes, not in those exact words, but I told him that I'm feeling "less wanted". He said he knows that I would like to spend more time together, but he's really busy right now, especially since the gym takes so long. He's trying to make up for it by cuddling me more, and doing some work at my place once in a while. This has been a bit reassuring, but I'm still concerned.

You just perfectly described my brother, haha. He's really self-conscious about his greying hair, but it suits him :) He's a paramedic, builds/sells furniture, plays guitar, and is super respectful. He makes me a proud big sissy! Hopefully he'll find a girl that appreciates all these traits.

I love feeling pretty and feminine, especially compared to strong, strapping men, as cliche as that sounds :P I love decorating in girly ways, getting dolled up, and baking delicious treats for my man. I am truly grateful that these things are valued in women, and that I can make my SO proud by being good at them. Also, I freaking love dresses and it would be a bummer to give them up!

Thank you for clarifying! It sounded from your post that you were mainly looking at the men you work closely with. My preference is to be with someone a little smarter/older/wiser than myself, as well. I find that if I have even the slightest superiority in any relationship, I'll become maternal toward the other person (obviously this is super unhealthy). You are getting great advice here, and I totally empathize with you! Good luck :)

You beat me to the punch! My boyfriend and I (together 2 years) are both pursuing a Ph.D., but in very different areas. /u/daezy357: if you want someone who has the exact same substantive knowedge as you, who is also romantically compatible with you, it will probably be difficult to find. However, if you expand your search to educated, intelligent men in general (i.e., those who will be able to learn a bit about your area and keep up with you in general conversations about work), you will have a…

Thank you! I definitely have a long way to go, but it was such an epiphany to realize that his moods and actions aren't always a direct reflection of his feelings for me (i.e., I was taking everything way too personally). Now that I've taken a step back and focused more on propping him up instead of worrying, it's been a night-and-day difference :D Definitely need to keep absorbing all your wisdom!

Thank you so much! Yes, it's gone such a long way and it's wonderful to know that he's appreciating all the girly stuff. I always find it funny that big, rugged men love our delicate femininity!

There's this awesome video about level of attractiveness and choosing a mate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB1oMfs8nWY It really hits home for me how mate-pairing ultimately works out. You are not defective, and I've also found myself attracted to men that aren't the hottest man in the room (even when I have offers from others who are objectively more attractive). There's nothing wrong with the guys you find attractive, so I would suggest working on yourself a little more so that your feeling…

You're saying that you've "never been attractive", but you only talk about your height/weight situation. What about everything else? How do you dress, do your hair, and wear your makeup? There are plenty of cute chubby girls, because they take their time to look and dress attractively. Even if you don't feel great about your face, some simple, natural makeup makes everyone look a lot better than no makeup at all. Even if you have curls that you hate, you can still get a flattering haircut and st…
