Everyone… thank you all for the feedback… and yeah I hear ya. While it doesn’t make sense… it also makes sense. It sucks but hopefully this will be over sooner than later and life can go become something else. I’ll look but I don’t believe in Missouri that new debts are non-marital but I’ll take a look. Frankly I need to get better educated and that’s just been pretty hard to do. Thank you

Yeah I’ve done it. Still going through it I guess really. But I’ve filed. Similar situation… she was abusive. I’m doing the leaving.

I woke up. Realized I’d let her take over my whole life. I gave every inch and she took every mile. My health was in ruins and I had to ask permission to take care of myself. I finally started to give a damn about me and realized as long as we were married she’d want to be in control and it would destroy me. So I said I was done.. took my life back and haven’t looked back.

Collect evidence, get a lawyer, file, and then maybe have your day.

Until my divorce is finalized, I’m staying out of any entanglements. I’ll build relationships strictly at the friend level for now. Besides… after all the damage she’s done, I need to unf*ck my head a bit. Just because I don’t want to drag prior history garbage into it.

Thank you for this. I’m filing now after months of waiting for her to come around and cooperate. I’m done and I’m moving forward. I’ll tell her after I’ve filed at this point. I’ve got my exit plan just in case.

Still working toward getting her to agree to divorce…. In the meantime I’ve stopped waiting and started living. Got a therapist and started engaging in activities that I remember enjoying. She keeps thinking I’m going to come around and beg for forgiveness and be the one in the wrong. Not happening. I’ve lived in her twisted little world for too long.

Ultimately, she pushed me to just say it by trying to cast my moodiness as “thinking about work just like always”. So yeah not this time.

Thank you! I wish you the peace you deserve if this is anything like what you went through. I’m holding desperately on to the hope of a happier life after this.

Yeah I’m going through this now with my stbx. I foolishly agreed to marriage counseling. She immediately turned the tables and made out like she was the victim. Every time she talks about the relationship it’s about how she can’t understand why I want to leave. Why I suddenly no longer love her. Behind closed doors, it’s love bombing and acknowledging years of abusive behavior. Or going completely passive-aggressive to outright insulting. Sometimes in a matter of minutes. It’s insane. I need her…

I like the way you are looking at this. I also I tend to think of failure a little differently: many things don’t work out the way I expect or intend. This is not failure. If I fail to learn from it: that’s failure. Did my marriage not work out? Yes. Is some of that my fault? Yes. Am I learning a lot out of all of this? Absolutely. My marriage didn’t fail. It taught me valuable lessons I plan to carry forward and make myself better than who I was in my marriage and before my marriage. I will bec…

Thanks. I’ve been struggling with where to start. This helps!

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I wish I had advice from experience but as I’m trying to get out of my abusive situation as well, I don’t. I wish you the best, hope you break free and return to yourself! Make sure you find someone to talk to about this. It’s the only thing helping me right now.

So yeah. I guess I’m just trying to figure out how to get out now. I know I need to get a bank account that’s my own, get a lawyer, sock away some funds to live on while the divorce proceeds. I’m just a bit lost with it all.

Not divorced yet, but, it takes a real special kind of friend to be a good sounding board during the “process”. I, too, found ChatGPT did a real good job of analyzing my writing and as long as I was doing the work of opening up and exploring my past, it did a great job of helping me navigate and explore the stuff I found.

Assets: Two houses (one rented out for more then the mortgage) 401k (500k-ish) Incomes: 200ish me, 110ish her No kids, one dog. 25 years together. Married right out of college. While dating, she pushed me away from activities and friends. Didn’t mind so much then because I figured it’s just young love right? That continued on throughout our marriage. If it was something I enjoyed solo, it needed to end. She’d never overtly say as much, but she would always start a fight. If I had to do anything,…

I’m at the very start of my journey. 25+ years and I can’t see why I didn’t really understand where I was or what kind of relationship I got myself into till now. Everyday, was just, duty or something. Till I woke up and all control was completely gone. Who I was: gone. My mind was breaking and I finally realized because it just couldn’t cover it up any more. How did you take control back? As soon as she knows what I’m doing she’s going to go nuclear on me. Frankly, she can be a little unstable.…
