You know what I'd favour? Software that forcibly removes all references to race, gender and even individual's name before it gets submitted for review to the admissions person. Just remove all things that aren't their academic record or their written essay minus identifying characterists or whatever that university asks for. Clearly, then, the admissions people can't make unfair snap judgements on anybody.

I always dislike these news stories because I don't know what to think. I've been in the mental healthcare system and even interacted with people that were there nearly for life. (People that have been in-hospital for decades, although not necessarily for any crime or potential criminality. There was a big deal about this made in Canada recently too. Specifically over a clinic in the US that intentionally targeted immigrants just north of the border with ads offering to artificially create a pregnancy of the sex of your choosing, and also offering to determine the sex of a current pregnancy and 'deal with it' as needed as it were. It definitely does happen, and it's sad.

To be fair, polygraphs aren't that useful. There's a reason they aren't pulled out at every opportunity. Even if the physical indicators a polygraph measure were a 100% accurate way of determining perceived truth in statements it'd still be very contentious to use them in court because laboratories and other sources of evidence that require a trained human to interpret data can have error rates in excess of 5% easily. I mean things like feeding and clothing the kids. (Also buying one of them some sports equipment and paying a fee to the tune of $500 for his hockey games.) Ehhh... I don't know how I feel about this. I feel like it makes the dentist a shitty person for feeling incapable for resisting, but I don't know if it should actually be illegal. I mean we've already allowed for look-based discrimination in jobs for 'models', so is it really so unfair to say that a dentist can fire someone for not fitting their personal preferences? Of course one could easily use that excuse to not hire anybody they don't like for any reason...

If it's them trying to cover their ass they might just have a single waiver for you that puts the onus on you for anything that a spouse might complain about. Either way I see what you mean. To be fair schizophrenics are only marginally more violent as a group then the population as a whole. Intentional acts of violence from them is rare, but when it happens it always makes the news. Is the fact it almost entirely goes to old people really a bad thing? The idea is to find people that have made a long-lasting and important contribution, and seeing what impact something has takes some time. Peter Higgs, for example, has a huge clamour of people hoping he'll get a Nobel for something he did about 60 years ago! That's the point - if it's still memorable decades later, it's worth a Nobel.
