Part of being a good dude is knowing how fraught society's relationship gets with women and food, and not making a gaffe by commenting on it further.

I never dreamed of being a mother and the biological clock never started ticking. I found peace with the fact that there's no clock on providing a stable foster or adoptive home for a kid who is already in the world.

Oh when I was young I dated an apprentice plumber for a while and he was an awesome boyfriend. Sincere, upbeat, great values, took care of himself and supported his family, planned fun dates and appreciated my efforts too. Really broadened my horizons beyond the self-centered business and engineering students that were always hanging around me at the time and likely out-earns most of them now too.

Women's only Meetup groups can be pretty great. Some are age-range targeted while others are hobby-focused. I obviously feel much safer in women's camping and hiking groups vs. going into the woods with strange men. IME groups excluding men often deter pickme types. My local groups were decimated during pandemic though and many were deleted by Meetup due to lack of activity. Might be time to start one myself.

I shocked the hell out of my relative whose boyfriend (and later husband 😑) was walking all over her. She would cry about him, "Why does he want this or that? What does it mean?" and I just got sick of it and said, "Who cares? You don't have to take that." She doesn't have a supportive group of girlfriends so it just made an awkward silence that I didn't try to take back. Not everything is a nuanced puzzle for you to tease out and even if it was...why bother? Who cares? It's just a guy. There ar…

Cavill as a caricature is right, I've only seen his muscles in Superman and yes - he's ripped - but he's built to appeal more to the male power-fantasy gaze. Obviously you can't go into a Superman movie without being jacked to hell but his strength doesn't look functional and he's shaped like a Dorito. You see him & Momoa with their shirts off in the same movie - one looks like 'roids and the other looks like a big dude who swims a lot.

Notice how the fight started because she took some new piercings? He wants to control not only her life choices, but also her appearance. On top of everything else...what a stupid fucking hill to die on. What kind of long-term consequences does he think a piercing is going to have? You can just take them out.

On the flipside, pay attention to how they act about your driving and car. Do they push back if you offer to drive? Do they make shitty comments about your car or your driving skills? Do they leave trash? Are they in a rush or critical of the route you pick? 🚩 Are they willing to manage the music/GPS/temp controls while you drive? Do they gladly stop for a break or a fun pit stop? (I am known to pull over for every farm stand and photo op I pass so this one's important!) Will they helpfully poin…

Also Richard Armitage, he's about 50 now, still looking fine, and frequently dates within his own age bracket which is refreshing

she's not "acting right for a woman" This is Partition all over again - old white conservatives wringing their hands about how "filthy" this song about married women having baby-making sex. They've been telling us for centuries that that's the only acceptable kind of sex to have, and yet when a WOC sings about it, or god forbid, enjoying it, it becomes "filth."

Oh I'm on a rewatch and when Hank stands up to Cotton in Shins of the Father with, "No wonder your wife left you, she was a strong classy lady, like Peggy," I straight up cheered

Oh this happened to me back in college; not the "hit by a car" part but I was riding with a guy I was just starting to see and he sped off (we were going to his friend's house for a party and I didn't know the address). I was a bike courier back then and just didn't feel like riding around even more looking for him & took a detour to go visit a girlfriend instead! Cell phones weren't ubiquitous yet so as far as that guy knows I just rode right off the face of the earth.

That crusty old line is no excuse! My father is old-school and loves to give flowers; my mother is a green thumb & on team "they're just going to die." So her sunroom is absolutely brimming with live flowering plants that he's given her over the years in lieu of cut flowers. They met each others' needs in a creative way and everyone is satisfied.

Ciara has almost 2 decades of hits and still going, she's been modeling for just as long, she's one of the best dancers who ever lived, she's educated with a beautiful family, insane industry connections, a host of long-standing female friendships, and she uplifts other women. She's everything that scares the shit out of LVM.

I grew up a Mathlete so Pi Day has always taken precedence over S&BJ Day...I've only had one scrote-y dude try to bring it up and I was too busy baking delicious pies and listening to obnoxious math-themed songs to hear him 🤷‍♀️

Gallery hopping is one of my favorite activities and it's totally free; artsy/college neighborhoods are full of them and the best lunch spots are always right there. I guess that would require literally any thought to one's local cultural scene which is why it doesn't occur to LVM.

When men and women go in on another woman I like to ask them what she did wrong. What has she done to harm you that you'd talk about her this way? Put 'em on the spot.

It's a line that's thrown around to make men occasionally run the dishwasher without first being asked 25 times. It backfired because now men expect a sticker and a blowjob for pushing the "Start" button on the machine.

My mom used to tell me to always be able to handle my own life, what everyone else brings to the table is just a bonus. That mindset has helped me when dealing with men, when housemates skipped leases, and when coworkers slacked off on projects. Always be able to walk away.

if those idols aren't their type at all, they will be insulted and dismissed like it is a sin to exist Once upon a time I was picking up my books at a comic shop and a bunch of obese 40-something men had just seen Transformers, and were discussing how they would never be attracted to Megan Fox because "she has a weird thumb." I just about lost my mind.

I live for dad bods and the way that men have run with the term pisses me off. When it entered the lexicon it was all about strong guys with some softness, like vacation Momoa, not obese men with no muscle.

Yeah, I can name 10 delicious spots in my neighborhood that are less expensive and more atmospheric than Applebee's. Those chains are way overpriced for what you get and I'd much rather support small, locally-owned businesses (especially now!)

Sooo much nerd programming suffers from "the male character DESERVES and GETS the hottest woman" narrative.

Nerdy guys have those extra hangups because, more often than not, they were forming their concepts of love and sex from TV and movies instead of from actually dating. I'm a huge nerd and am partnered up with someone who isn't, and will probably never go back. Honestly, I don't even want to be friends with most male nerds anymore.

there needs to be an established actual friendship first This right here is the most important thing about making FWBs work and is also the aspect that got jettisoned from the general consciousness the fastest. Real friends respect each other and want the best for one another. Real friends can be honest and trust one another. Men who can handle true friendships with women are rare, and rarer still are the men who can handle it with sex on the table.

Queer Eye had an episode about a guy who lived in his parents' basement...and they made over the basement so he could bring dates back there. It was positive to see the guy's confidence improve but maybe take him to see a financial planner instead?!

I respect any boundaries that need to be put in place and he will let me know if there are any problems. I make an effort to want to meet and interact with whoever he's dating, simply because it's always nice to meet and involve your family members' SO. Yes this! Respecting boundaries and encouraging healthy relationships is a cornerstone of being a friend. I want my friends to be happy so I give them space and always make sure girlfriends are included/invited at hangouts. If a friend is draggin…
