This sounds like a ChatGPT response. I would consider that ChatGPT tells you what you want to hear and clearly what you want to hear is how useful the texts are. The judge is going to say you went along with her lifestyle choices and you were supporting her and unfortunately depending on your state’s laws and how long you were married, you may have to pay her alimony while she “gets back on her feet.”

You need to shut down those conversations. You don’t need to talk about your romantic lives while coparenting. If she was talking about bringing the guy around your child(ren) then that would be a different story, but you don’t need to know who she shares a bed with when the kids are with you. I was just reading a thread that made me sad thinking about my own marriage even though I have zero feelings left for my ex husband. I can honestly feel grateful for his girlfriend’s kindness to my kids wh…

Maybe a lot of them actually are happier? I was a married single mom and my ex husband probably hated me and he cheated on me multiple times until leaving me for his coworker. My daily stress level is significantly lower.

You need to learn the grey rock method so you don’t have 3.5 hour fights with her. You will feel much better.

If you can’t negotiate fully to ensure you pay him directly, maybe make it so you pay kid directly if not living with her. In theory she would be using the support to provide a roof over his head if he is still living with her. I don’t know. My ex’s and my agreement is when the kids turn 18, but my parents divorced when I was 5 and my dad paid my mom directly into an account only for that and she gave me the debit card for it when I moved out.

Honestly there are a lot of men here who do hate women. You just have to ignore them. I’m a divorced woman and I don’t hate men, but this subreddit has made me go back and forth on that a few times. In the end it has made me understand my ex a little better and made coparenting a little easier I think.

Oh, that’s unfortunate… hopefully the judge will default to 50/50. Don’t do anything that could get the judge to sway in her favor from 50/50 which means keep it amicable and don’t do anything she could record or show as evidence to make you look bad. Also, keep showing up for your kids now. Don’t let her keep the kids from you because that could be used to show you don’t really want 50/50 and they are more likely to “keep status quo.”
/r/Divorce_Men26/05/26 05:04 PM

Are you trying to figure out how to get more than 50/50 or something? And if both parents are fit then why would you want to? Kids deserve time with both parents as long as both parents are willing and good parents.

As a fearful avoidant it sounds like you may be going for the fearful avoidant types?

This sounds like my ex husband and also, from what I could tell from her ex husband, his affair partner. I wonder if two people like that together will work out better for them. Both seem avoidant. She also is diagnosed with BPD so that tracks too. Sorry you went through that though. The cheating is rough. Especially if you were oblivious to it. Makes it hard to trust again.

I wasn’t trying to correct you so much as just say I don’t think they have kids which is always better if wanting a divorce.

He said stay at home wife. I would definitely divorce her before bringing children into the marriage. Sounds miserable. Probably should have her try to get a job though first to reduce alimony hopefully.

Federal tax rules do not go by state rules and this isn’t true. My ex husband gets to claim one child every year and I claim the other. He cannot technically claim head of household because we don’t have 50/50. I can also still claim the childcare expenses for the child he gets to claim. Head of household is solely determined by who has the child more overnights for the year. With that said, in this case I believe he can justify the HoH for the years he claims the child, but I would be a little …

There could be no ulterior motive and she is just treating you as she would anyone else. I would not analyze it too much. You say you don’t see an avenue back to a relationship with her, but it seems you are trying to read into her motives in hopes that she does want you back, but you are right that there is no avenue back that way so no point in wondering. Be kind and cordial back as if she was any other stranger you had to interact with.

Is she able to pay? Having similar incomes does not mean having similar expenses or perhaps views on saving. Would she be okay with doing cheaper dinners and dates and paying more often or does she expect more expensive dates without chipping in?

I’m a woman, I was not the “breadwinner” persay, but I make a good income. It was beneficial to get it done with as soon as possible. You are entitled to half of the assets (and debts unfortunately) so don’t let her talk you out of assets. If she is having an affair then she will want out quickly and that can help you. Your attorney will know whether you are entitled to alimony. You may need therapy and that’s why you feel like you need to be talking to your attorney more. Don’t use your attorne…

Then the marriage wasn’t serving you either and you will hopefully find someone who does not ignore or downplay your needs. I would use this opportunity to self reflect, do the work to make yourself a better partner, and also reflect on what you want in a partner and communicate that upfront before the bad habits are either ingrained or you get too invested in the relationship even though it’s clear they can’t or won’t be what you need/want.

You look better staying out of it and letting him have her. She’s not worth it. Also, when they are busy with their new fling they really just want out as easily and painless as possible. I feel like that helped a lot in my divorce.

Well I’m not on those subreddits and have no desire to be. I like to get the male perspective on things and I have found it has softened me toward my ex to the point where I am not mad or angry at him, I am just indifferent. I think that has probably made coparenting together easier too.

Yes, I am a woman and my ex would use anything I said against me, but I never once used any of his childhood trauma or anything else against him and I think OP’s story is pretty horrific. I am not assuming because my ex did it that all men would. I think there are certain types of people who will do stuff like that. This is not true in all states. All states offer no fault divorces, but not all states only have no fault divorces. It may help him get out of alimony if he can prove the cheating.

Do you guys have a good coparenting relationship or does she usually say no to stuff like this? Could you just be straight forward and say something like since so and so doesn’t have school tomorrow, can the kids stay over tonight? I probably wouldn’t include that the kids want to stay over because it could feel like rejection to her and put her on the defensive, but of course you know her better than we do.

My ex did not want 50/50. He does a couple nights of dinner and EOW. I think it helps him be more present when he is with the kids. I am not sure he was equipped to be a full time parent and this offers the best of both worlds, but I think he is also a little sad when our oldest goes back home on Sunday. His girlfriend is also childfree and planned to stay that way so I think it helps that she can be like the fun aunt and not have to step in as basically a step mom eventually.

My ex wanted the divorce after he cheated on me. I kept his last name because of our kids and my professional life where I shouldn’t need to explain to everyone what happened and deal with all of the name change issues. My ex does not care since it’s just a name.

Definitely wait until divorce is finalized. I think my ex husband felt some guilt so it made the divorce process quick and painless for us for the most part. Some of his contempt leaked in after we had already had the settlement papers drawn up and agreed on terms and he was just ready to sign and be done.

My ex husband told me I would really like his coworker if I got to meet her and we’d probably be friends and watch them end up getting close and start dating because I would never believe then that they didn’t have an affair. Lo and behold they are in fact dating and her ex husband was not in fact lying when he told me they were having an affair that started while I was a few months postpartum. Cheaters are trash.

Is that rental income net of expenses related to the house or is it just the gross?
/r/Divorce_Men24/02/26 10:54 PM

This is where I am at. It’s hard when your spouse cheats and then blames you for it to take full accountability for your part in the relationship’s breakdown, but I am finding it easier to recognize where I went wrong as I’ve gotten distance from it and no longer have any anger toward him.
/r/Divorce_Men24/02/26 01:54 PM

Please don’t do that. I was cheated on and while it did make him wanting a divorce easier in some ways, it really messed with my sense of self and worth and I now have zero desire to be in a relationship again. You are better off just getting a divorce. Plus your kids will hate you if and when they find out if she doesn’t keep it from them.

I was a married single mom. My life got infinitely easier after divorce even though my ex gave me full custody and he’s actually a much better dad now even if it’s just every other weekend. She does likely have depression, but you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves. Maybe if she knows you are seriously considering divorce she would be open to it though?
/r/Divorce_Men19/02/26 02:58 AM

Did you tell her you wanted a divorce already? It looks like you are trying to talk to 19 year old girls on here while claiming you could be perfect and she’d always think of you as a cheater. If she doesn’t know you are considering divorce then you effectively are trying to cheat so is she actually wrong?
/r/Divorce_Men07/02/26 04:33 PM

Honestly sometimes that’s worse. I didn’t realize how terrible my ex truly was until we were getting divorced and then I couldn’t unsee it. He would accuse me of doing all of the things he was doing and I was left trying to figure out if I was the narcissist when I had been bending over backwards to do everything for the household and he was cheating on me while I was postpartum with a baby at home.

Never go to therapy with an abuser. It just gives them more ammo and they are usually great at DARVOing and you come out of it thinking you are the problem. Individual therapy for sure though.

I have ADHD and while I get dysregulated easily, I always made it a rule to not say stuff to my ex I couldn’t take back. He did not have the same qualms and I am getting the same vibes. She is being abusive to him. That’s a lot of contempt she’s showing.

I would probably try to turn that hate into indifference if possible. I don’t know what all she did, but it takes a lot out of you I think to really hate someone. I don’t hate my ex anymore, I generally just feel indifferent to them and I think that has helped my mental health a lot.

It sounds like communication may be your biggest hurdle. I thought it was the issue with my ex until I realized he didn't want to hear what I had to say and he was always going to contribute the worst motive to my actions and he liked to put me on the defensive because it got the attention off him. No amount of therapy or working on communication will do anything in that situation. My ex cheated on me with his coworker. It started as an emotional affair. They spent all of their time together at work so I didn't even suspect anything since he was home every day after work and with us on the weekends. All that to say her being at her business doesn't mean she's not cheating. I am sure she does have trauma from your issues with alcohol and needing to go to rehab, but you can't work through those things if she is checked out and will always hold that against you. Coming home late and getting defensive when you ask questions. DARVOing and bringing up your past in order to turn everything around on you. My ex husband did that stuff when he was cheating. He needed to feel like the victim so he didn't have to feel guilty.

I can agree with all of that. I think it's just hard as a woman to feel safe dating, especially when you have very little experience with it and didn't think you'd ever have to. I've actually never used a dating app. It seemed reassuring that there was a tool like that out there, but you are right that there will always be bad actors and considering most of the people posting and commenting are doing so anonymously, there is little accountability. Yeah, when you put it that way, it does seem pretty terrible and I don't doubt there are instances of that happening unfortunately. I am sorry you had that experience. It's hard because I have seen posts where men use a different name on the apps and someone else will recognize them and say they have DV charges (with proof), etc. Things that really make you pause as a woman (or anyone really) because there is a good chance you wouldn't have known that or had anyway to find that out without posti…

I didn't say it was perfectly fine and I can't see myself doing it. Just wanted to be reassuring to men who may be worried and don't really have any reason to be. Like those without psycho ex girlfriends. I am pretty sure there are Facebook groups for men for a similar purpose so it might be a possibility if I actually dated.
/r/Divorce_Men19/01/26 02:03 AM

I'm not involved in it. I was more just curious about it when I saw it existed and now it's one of many groups where a post will cross my feed. I was also curious if my ex was on there since I know he at least cheated with a coworker, but mostly I was curious what the dating scene was like since I was married almost 15 years and we started dating at 18.

I have seen some of that too. Specifically I've seen where someone calls someone else out for posting in the first place and it's usually the current girlfriend or wife from the context clues telling the OP they are just stirring trouble. Its usually that there are repeat people posted and there are a lot of comments saying the same thing so you can be pretty sure those are likely true. I think that mostly sorts itself out since if someone totally makes something up, there will be people that ac…

I have never posted on it, but I have seen many of the posts. The rules say you are not supposed to nitpick the profile itself and it's not for critiquing what the person looks like. Yeah, anytime I tried to say anything that could be taken as criticism, it was always flipped back on me and I was then defending myself. Most of the time it was vague criticism that I couldn't do anything with. "You're always mean." Well how am I mean, what could I do that was nice? "Just be nicer. You're nicer to strangers than you are to me." Well I'm not going to be mean to people who did nothing to me, but that also doesn't tell me what I can do to be nice. For me it was catching them cheating and then it was turned around that they didn't want to be under a microscope for the rest of their life so we might as well end it. So then I was the one begging them not to leave me and any time I was remotely jealous or insecure they would threaten to break up, but they did nothing to make me feel secure and looking back I think purposely tried to make me jealous. Of course 15 years later I thought I had been the problem back then. Well just made it easier …

I used it more as like a therapy tool to analyze the relationship and actual conversations (emails and texts) as my ex made me feel like I was always the one in the wrong. I realized going through old old emails that I was a doormat from the beginning. The actual divorce and everything was very straightforward as we agreed on terms and custody.

I always told it I wanted it to be brutally honest. It did have the same take, but if I tried to do it from the ex's perspective then it would take their side very quickly which was why I always went with neutral third party and I felt like that would give me the most peace of mind that it wasn't just hyping me up.
/r/Divorce_Men11/01/26 06:47 PM

I did that with the prompt and I still feel like it was always "on my side." I think some of that I needed at the time, but I have also realized things are a lot more nuanced than chatgpt will make them out to be. Whenever I was unsure if it was just taking my side, I would do a temporary chat and pretend I was a neutral third party. It definitely was more neutral in its take when I did that. In the wrong hands I do think chatgpt can be very detrimental.

My ex is an every other weekend dad because that's what he wanted. He did not want 50/50 and still doesn't do overnights with our youngest. It would be too much work. My state is a 50/50 default though. If he wanted it, he would have gotten it.

If you mean not healthy for you... It is probably not in the long run, but it is good to prioritize them now in the short term with all of the changes that are and will take place. When you split custody and you have time to yourself, that will be a good time to start prioritizing yourself more and it's good for your kids to see that too.

She's probably having an affair honestly. Where is she going when she "can't be around you?" You sound like a good dad. Keep being there for the kids. They will remember who showed up for them and who didn't. Since you know in the future you will have some different traditions without your wife, maybe start those now.

They really do. I’m a woman and I wouldn’t have known my ex was having an affair if her now ex husband didn’t tell me about it (also, you should totally tell her AP’s wife and offer some proof). Because it keeps getting suggested to me so I read it and then some things resonate with me like what you said about women not wanting to live with men basically, but it also drives me nuts because the prevailing idea is women bad and women just users and only men are getting screwed over which is obviously not true. I feel similarly. My ex had an affair with a coworker that started when our second child was only 4 months old, treated me terribly the entire time while I suspected nothing and just internalized all of the issues, and then he gave me full custody while telling me the reason was he wanted to be an equal parent and didn’t feel like he could be while married to me. I’m pretty sure a lot of the issues are in fact due to the ex wife. She is using the system that was put into place to protect the disadvantaged spouse. It seems like there should be a way to have splitting the lawyer’s fees waived when one side’s is so exorbitantly high. I’m surprised she’s coming back now for debt on the Tesla. I guess my message was just that there are stable women out there, but we just aren’t looking for relationships either. It seems like you agree that men and women don’t need each other and don’t need to be in relationships, but also resent the fact that I don’t want to be in one. Like you want the upper hand or something as a man that doesn’t need a woman, but how dare a woman not want a man and she’s part of the problem. Maybe I’m reading it wrong?

I kind of hoped to be less disillusioned, but that hasn’t really happened. I think most of the people here were burned by their exes and so they have a very sad view of women as a whole and I don’t really see the point of getting into a relationship with someone who already doesn’t respect me. Been there and done that.

I think you must have stopped reading at lurking since you seemed to miss the part where I said I wasn’t looking.

So I’m a woman who lurks on here just because it got suggested to me at some point. Maybe the stable women just aren’t out there looking for the most part? I am 6 months post divorce and just have zero desire to date plus I am busy with my kids. My ex husband did not want 50/50 because he did not want to be responsible for sick kids and getting kids off to school in the morning and dealing with their breaks, etc. He still isn’t taking our almost 2 year old for over nights and just started taking her 3 weeks ago for “dinners” and a few hours on his Saturdays when he already has our 5 year…
