I guess I wasn't clear, I'm not recommending she just think her positive affirmation, but should say it- bring it into the relationship. If you tell someone they are always critical or always nagging, that's what they become , what they live up to, if you start telling someone that they are a hard worker or loving, they will live up to that as well. Here's the blog post I was referencing, she explains it much better than I did. http://lauradoyle.org/blog/controlling-husband/

Laura Doyle had a great blog post about this a few weeks back. She recommends trying to think of the positive thing that you want and create a self-fulfilling affirmation around that. So for your situation you might start saying something like "I love that you love me just the way I am!" or "you usually give me more space to make decisions". Even though it might not feel true right now, if you give it time he will start fulfilling the mantra.

This is exactly the situation. I'm trying so hard to step back and finances are definitely something I want to relinquish. And I feel like he is capable - he has an undergrad in actuarial science and worked as a banker for two years... So I know he is capable of handling our money.

Thanks, the negative mental list is definitely not helping anyone.

I leave groceries and cell phone off mine. Mine is mostly things that I would like but don't need: money for the occasional Starbucks/lunch. Money for kids clothes/activities. Money for clothes/hobbies - I crochet and am getting into quilting, so yarn and fabric. I also like using essential oils so those are on my plan.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
