Software engineer here as well that just started his career and would like to eventually make more. How do I conduct myself better both in the interview process (I know that I can just read r/cscareerquestions) and in the workplace (culture and communication are often talked about, but what does a RP man see it?).

Agreed. Its a solid book with strong emphasis on inner game. In fact honesty is such an important virtue. But for anyone looking for more practical game to get the ball rolling, "being vulnerable" can easily be interpreted the wrong way (I know I did - I talked about my feelings and thought that was vulnerability). So I can also feign non-neediness, but now what? I find that the above comment about saying things with a fire in your eyes and a wry smile to be much closer to what is considered a c…

The only advice that actually helped me was RSD Tyler's video about free association and sounding exciting EVEN when saying something boring ( https://youtu.be/O8c-ijxS8CY ). If you can't "talk on and on" on the spot, or at least recognize you have this ability, you will psyche yourself into the classic "shit what should I say" psyche.

The idea of "bullshit small talk" is where I think a lot of books about "how to talk to people, how to make people like you" miss the point on. In recent months its become very apparent to me that socializing isn't really seduction. For example, being interested in someone is one of those cardinal rules of having social interactions go well, or staying around topics such as Family Occupation Recreation Dreams. While I am being a perfectly normal and polite human being for this style of socializi…

Thanks I will check that out. One point is clear - I'm probably talking too much about myself or my affairs and interests and that isn't helping anybody.

I feel like my game is stuck and can't improve because the things I say "dry out" a conversation, and drive it out of possible seduction. I love talking about things like how life should be lived, realizations I've had, books I've read, etc... because I actually find these conversations fun for myself. Its as if these things kill off any seduction vibe in the interaction, and trying to add back in physical proximity/touching at that point seems too awkward - the girl already sees me as this matu…

Nor sure if helpful - but I tried not moving at all and making the minimal actions. This forces you to think before you take on a new mannerism such as bobbing your head up and down in laughing.

I got a degree in electrical engineering. To equip myself better for jobs, I learned some programming and have went through several jobs as a software engineer/developer. My conclusion was this: Yes, you can get a job. But I did not like being a code monkey or an employee. I found out that I don't have that inner passion for programming like some other people I've seen, and I tried so hard to fight this feeling off. I disliked the culture of the majority of people I've met in the field - strongl…

Not experienced here, but did lose my virginity at 24 after having dealt with a host of anxiety and insecurity issues surrounding not having lost it, friends around me all being experienced, WTF is wrong with me, etc. I lost it to a hooker/escort after months of debate with myself. I also subsequently did have my first time with a girl in my social circle though it didn't pan out to a relationship. I consider that one luck to this day. The buildup to the sex can be nerve wracking as hell. Depend…

This is by far one of the most enlightening posts I've read on TRP. I am a complete novice in stimulating emotion to women. BP upbringing, engineering major. Good god. I often think that the way I go about making conversation is always doomed to talking about banalities (what did you do today), listening to some sob story or gossip (which based on what you said isn't as bad - since the girl is emotional talking about it?), or worse. The best I can usually do is talk about the past. Childhood. Or…

I lost it a few months back. I can totally agree with what you're saying, especially how if I told my past virgin self this, he would've totally called BS. I thought sex would boost my confidence and self-esteem, and skyrocket my life. But in reality its different. In a span of a few months, I first lost my virginity to a prostitute. The best part of that was the anticipation and anxiety before going, all the social stigma attached to "paying for sex", going anyway, and realizing that sex didn't…

Sounds like you're falling in love with the idea of the girl. There's no way you can really like or "fall in love" with a girl without having some emotional connection first. I'd say make some kind of move to see where you're at, and do this way before you get attached to any feelings you might have; this is opposed to what needy guys do who start "liking" her, then get frustrated trying to figure out the best time to hold her hand or kiss her.

Violating a few of those right now. Good reminder. It helps to read some sort of list to tell if you are making any mistakes in your behaviour and to make sure you don't do it tomorrow.

That's true. I've also had some awkward experiences in the past where I escalated, most likely because the girl thought I was just a nice guy treating her to dinner when I suddenly would hold her hand or kiss out of nowhere with no previous flirting whatsoever. I guess that's what bugs me.

More of a philosophical question. For those who have had some progress... Is it "wrong" or "dangerous" to feel a lot of happiness and approval when a girl is actually responding to you? My game isn't good, I'm pretty much a beginner, but I've been fairly analytical of my past failures and successes for a few years. Yet, my experience is still low. I feel a surge of fulfillment and satisfaction if the girl even tries to carry on a conversation with me. In the world of pickup masters, getting a gi…

I feel you man, but I felt that I couldn't hold a conversation with a girl. I wasn't feeling that nervous or anything, I even played it cool on the outside, a bit too cool. The girl was sitting next to me and she even asked me a few questions. I had a bit too much beer by then and just couldn't process the information properly and just said things like "oh". The conversation died soon after.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n5uyWeNs0Y This video cleared my concerns and doubts about shallow self-talk quite a bit. I also take a lot of his advice on many other things in general. The point is, "he who asks the most questions has the most power in a conversation" or something like that. Yes, the topic could be gas prices or the new iPhone, but you can ask a question that might draw it closer to something you're interested in. I'm usually interested in other people and seeing them as a hum…

Great post from another neurotic introvert here. My biggest pain points are making the conversation somewhat fun and lighthearted if need be, because sometimes I can't pull out from talking about deeper topics and that's when I find the mood running dry. Like you said, teasing and challenging them instead of talking about your own cat is one good way. The other is escalation. Its something I've never done properly because it goes against everything I've been programmed by my mother. Yet, clear a…

Pretty much creeped out a girl on text that I've only met once before, and have to see her again in Friday in a group setting. Thinking I should pretend nothing happened but not put my focus on her anymore. Any experienced advice on this awkward situation?

This might've been answered tons of times already, but here goes: I know I should turn my conversations sexual, but I would feel horribly incongruent doing so. I haven't had sex, so it would be obvious that I'm trying hard to act the whole "talking about sex casually" sort of frame. I'm still at the point where I can sort of have conversations going, but the vibe is not escalating. They're just conversations that involve good eye contact, minor humor, back and forth about life, school, work, whe…

This type of advice is probably the biggest chunk of what's missing from my game. I spent too much energy and attention into looking good and trying to appear alpha and confident that I neglected the nature of my interactions with women.

Maybe. But hear me out - I can play a few show-off songs on the piano. Its a conversation maintainer, it can impress, but if you THINK that you NEED to play the piano, you're probably trying to show-off to the girl or other people. I used to expect girls to think I'm smart, cool, or talented and then like me just by citing random Wikipedia facts, playing good songs, dressing well. Didn't work because I was trying to show-off subconsciously. That means you're probably coming from a needy mindset,…

Judging from that photo you're not a 3. Are you serious? You're at least a 6-7. I think you get the unattractive spiel ONLY based on your (possibly poor) posture and facial expressions. The facial features themselves are something people generally don't discriminate against. I've been called a good looking guy but I used to keep to myself in social situations, frown a lot, and let my eyes dart. That is not attractive either. There are certain posts that newbies coming should read, and I feel that this should be one of them. But there's a part which eludes me and a lot of other people, I'm sure: When I first started with pick up, I was a virgin who had a lot of fears with women. In my first four months I did over 1000 approaches and got a ton of results. But at what point does honesty go a bit too far and its not okay since its a bit weird and awkward for most people? I understand its probably best to "smart" about it, but I tried being honest a few times and said things to girls that aren't socially acceptable in most people's eyes.

You are well-acquainted on this subject intellectually. How do you get suppress all that logic in your head when you're actually out with the girl? I get stuck in my head a lot and I'm rarely a spontaneous person, instead often sitting back and being over-analytical about it

So it seems to me you're an introvert, and you get energy from being alone rather than being around others, which is completely normal, and you probably realized that from a personality test. Getting burnt out quickly when you take action, from personal experience, is because you're afraid of failure. Fear of judgment, fear of ego annihilation, etc. So you have resigned to being an observer, someone on the sidelines, so that your identity, your sense of self will never be at risk again.

Same problem here. Conversation is the backbone of seduction, and the anticipation of painful awkwardness is hampering my game the most. I hate all those moments where I do prolonged eye contact and nod and do a winceful grin just to fill in the silence - I always wish I can have something to say. Then there's those moments where I do have something to say, but it just comes out in disorganized chunks, leading me to try to hurriedly say it, and people stop listening...

We SEEM to do it through a mixture of buildings lots and lots of comfort and emotional connections, which is dangerous as it easily leads to the friendzone for guys who pedestal and act "nice". Same rules still apply, can't skip out on kino, flirting. Just perhaps more discreet in most situations where you're both in a group and social reputation matters.

How the heck do I show interest if in my culture (Asians) kino is sort of viewed as creepy unless done right? I want to make sure the girl knows I'm interested without being creeped out. I really don't want to verbalize my liking for a girl.

I would dare to even say to just ignore the thought of IOIs in general. Maybe my game in general is just bad, but in my last few experiences with separate girls, the so-called IOIs didn't mean SHIT. First case: got the girl's number, asked her out, tried holding her hand mid-date, she got weirded/creeped out. Second case: international student talks to me on the bus, exchange numbers, go out that night, lots of kino, end up sleeping in the same bed as her, got creeped out when I touched her face…

I'll leave a very useful portion of Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth that is relevant to this post: When you don't play roles, it means there is no self (ego) in what you do. There is no secondary agenda: protection or strengthening of yourself. As a result, your actions have far greater power. You are totally focused on the situation. You don't try to be anybody in particular. You are most powerful, most effective, when you are completely yourself. But don't try to be yourself. That's another role. …

I've been here for over a year. I recently started approaching girls. Then soon I realized, without escalation, you're just another guy talking to her. Just like any of her friends. Here's a bit of an epiphany for you. A man with passion and mastery for a specific skill will always be attractive. It just causes a certain reaction from women, if you buy into the whole evolutionary psychology thing. However, some skills are easier to display than others. Music. Language. Anything performance. Cooking is cool. Programming a bit less. Anything is good. Don't set out doing a bunch of things just to appear attractive. If you like computers then go pursue that sort of field. If yo…

Real Social Dynamics. They have great inner game material. I always felt so great and had all these inner epiphanies after watching the videos. Owen (aka Tyler) and Julien have the best videos. But a lot of the inner game material keeps circling on itself. Some of their advice is very practical and in line with what Seddit preaches, while some will lead you to analyze yourself more and more. I'd still check it out on YouTube, but don't get addicted to it.

I'm not going to defend RSD nor am I associated with them but a lot of the newer free tour videos were quite on point.
