Hey OP, just a gentle reminder to turn off private messaging for your FDS account. If he is trolling, you are giving him exactly what he wants: attention. I like your spirit, but ask yourself if engaging with this person adds anything of value to your life. Why not spend that energy on yourself or with the HV people around you?

Hi! My best friend is on the spectrum and I’ll tell you what I tell her. You are a wonderful person who puts SO much effort into dating. Just think, you’re expending a ton of energy considering strategies for minimizing the impact of your autism on these men. But why? Why should you coddle them? As someone with female presenting autism you have probably spent your whole life trying to adjust and now they can’t show you basic empathy? Try spending that energy looking for someone who can respect a…

I’m always looking out for the little things that show they are comfortable with (read: profiting from) the white norm. For example, when they call me ‘exotic’ as a compliment or question why black Pete (Dutch blackface tradition) is hurtful to POC. Similarly, raving on about the one Indian wedding they went to (the colors, the music, naan bread!!). They say this to look good (look at how not racist I am!), but they’re really telling on themselves that they have almost no non-white experiences.

I just watched the Invisible Man. A woman leaves her abusive boyfriend and is trying to put herself back together when she hears he killed himself and left her a substantial sum. Then strange things start to happen and she knows that somehow he’s still around, haunting her. But no one believes her because, obviously, ghosts are not real. The whole movie is a powerful statement about the insidiousness of gaslighting and I think it fits the narrative very well.

I’m a bit late, but use toilet paper for the opposite effect! I used to live in a not so nice neighborhood and harassment was a daily thing. Then one evening on my way back from the supermarket there was just … nothing! No stares, no one following me or trying to talk to me. Like, yes,I POOP!!!! 10/10 would recommend

I'd like to share the story of my fds role model aunts. They don't have children or 'traditional' marriages (in the sense that it only benefits the guy as you described). They do have rich social lives, succesful careers and occasionally ask if I'd like to join them for a weekend in Berlin/New York/Amsterdam (not during the pandemic of course). One of them did get married when she was around 40. The guy lived two hours away though, and neither of them wanted to give up their lives in their respe…

I think any form of self defense is a good idea. But please take a women only class or go with a female friend. I took some krav maga classes last year and it was about 85% men. They weren't there to learn self defense, they were there to learn how to harm others. They would get way too close during sparring, touch my back a little too long or very obviously stare at my butt while we had to do squats. I quit and will start looking into women specific classes after the pandemic.

Hear, hear! One side of my family comes from an asian culture that is typically thought of as a 'we culture'. The other half is western and they are more individualistic. The social constraints that come with living in a 'we culture' are seriously overlooked. The touted advantages such as (non-romantic) love and connection are entirely conditional on adherence to the social norms of the group. The consequences of deviating are worse if you're a woman or person with lesser status. Suicide rates a…

I think of it more as realizing that my existing friendships with pick me's have a natural expiration date and that that's okay. For example, being good friends with a pick me has put me in many situations that made me incredibly uncomfortable or literally made me sick. I've been made to sleep on the floor because a boyfriend might want to play games on the pull out couch in the morning (he didn't) and intentionally been cooked food that gave me a migraine because the guy didn't believe my trigg…

I am sick and tired of being called exotic by white people who are so bland they can't handle spice levels higher than peanut butter.

Break ups can be a mixed bag of emotions. On the one hand, you dumped a LVM and are now ready to start leveling up, congratulations! On the other hand, it is a time of change and that can sometimes feel lonely. So give yourself some time to breathe. Don't put yourself in positions where you might be tempted to give in to LVM (no OLD, blocking & deleting known LVM from your phonebook). Do spend time on yourself. Make it a healthy mix of activities that energize you (reading a book, taking a bath,…

A couple of years ago an Uber Driver asked me if I was certain ethnicity and then casually told me me I looked like one of his favorite porn stars from that country. So gross.

It sounds like you're having a tough time and I'm so sorry you're going trough this without your support network. Reading your story it seems you're making the right decision letting this friend go. It's painful but at least you get to focus on yourself instead of spending energy on someone who clearly doesn't value you. Just know that your comments are really appreciated and helped me with making a plan for dealing with my friend. I'm sending you positive vibes and if you ever need some FDS sup…

You really nailed their relationship! They have this supposedly equal division of household chores where she does the groceries and cooks and he does everything else. Turns out she also does the laundry, cleans the bathrooms and more. Same with the wedding planning. Being her friend means putting up with all of this bullshit too. But I'm going to set some boundaries and if that means I can't be maid of honor anymore, so be it.

This is good advice, thank you! I have done something similar before but only with small issues. She never acknowledged I set boundaries and just pretended like it never happened. I like the way you put it, setting my boundaries and letting her tell me through her actions whether the friendship is sustainable. How did things go with your friend (if you're willing to share)?

I'm frustrated with an old friend for getting married to her LVM boyfriend. Every 'funny' story she tells me about their relationship is him controlling her. He has isolated her from all of our friends from before. He tries to manipulate and control me too whenever I visit and she lets him get away with it. I very carefully bring up his behavior about once a year but she always waves off my concerns. I feel like I have to let her go because it's been ten years and a friend who lets anyone treat …

Yes! And the mental gymnastics they perform to feel oppressed are so ridiculous. In college I had this male friend who had shoulder length blonde hair. And every single time the topic of feminism came up he would high jack the conversation. You see, he was really bothered when other men occasionally mistook him for a woman from behind (gee, I wonder why he thought that was a bad thing). He genuinely believed that this was comparable to what women face. I tried to explain that while I can imagine…

Finding FDS has really opened my eyes to LV relationships among my friends and family. There is literally only one (1) friend that I can point to who is in a (seemingly) healthy and HV relationship. I would also be interested in hearing about your experiences with male lawyers so far. In my experience, criminal defense lawyers, family lawyers and adminstrative lawyers have some chance of being HV coworkers. But almost all male prosecutors and men in (international) corporate and commercial law a…

I'm sorry this happened to you. I had a similar experience some years ago and remember how unsafe and betrayed I felt. I believed my male housemates would provide safety (if only because they're male) from other men. I believed that they would listen to me - a human who had been living with them for months - if I needed them to. In reality, they ignored me when I felt unsafe and pushed me back to the creep when I tried to keep my distance. Men have other men's backs, not ours. So proud of you fo…

I cut ties with my brother too and it's been liberating! Before FDS, I gave him the benefit of the doubt because our narcissist mother messed up both of us. I felt like I owed him my support and I ignored his increasingly toxic behavior. When we both moved back home for the lock down things became really bad though. He screamed at anyone who disagreed with him, trashed furniture (and claimed this was a 'healthy outlet for his anger' lol), and blamed 'radical feminist cunts' for his issues. Readi…
