While obesity has certainly grown, I don’t think people were on average hotter back in the day, they just had fewer choices. Studies have shown that OLD has skewered what women consider “average”. Combine that with a society that now says “you deserve the best just for existing, no matter what you look like or what your personality is”. Then thrown in attractive guys that are looking to get laid and willing to slum for it from time to time, and you have a totally mid-matched dating scene.

I usually asked between the third and fifth message I sent. At first I was very “get to know her” but then figured why waste the time since A) we might meet and have no attraction and B) the whole point is to meet. Some girls told me it was a major turn-off to not be asked early.

Of all the red flags, the one I don’t get at all is why would you want to text “for hours” before meeting someone? You might hate (or at the least just not be attracted) each other when you actually meet in person, in which case it was a total waste of time. When I did online dating I was usually asking about setting something up within the first three to six messages I sent. If there was no interest then, I’d just move on.

Exactly. And when it comes to cheating it is an amazingly accurate predictor of future behavior. Something to the tune of 350% more likely to do it again to the next partner. Once you’re personally ok with crossing that moral bridge, no reason not to do it again.

When it comes to cheating, judging someone by their past is an excellent predictor of future behavior. Past cheaters are something like 350% more likely to cheat again then someone who hasn’t cheated in a previous relationship, and it makes total sense. Most of the tim it even contradicts, such as: “plenty of time for me” and “great job”, “my parents would like” and “can be a bad boy”, or “manly man” and “can emphasize with/talk about my feeling”. I find some of the lists, especially when you see who’s making said lists, hilarious (and sad) to read. 100% agree. As I see it, asking seriously to “open” the relationship is crossing the Rubicon, there’s no coming back. It’s almost a progressive fad at this point, and those folks talk about how wonderful it is or how free and happy they are but I’ve never seen it end well. Just have the balls to end things and move on, which is what they really want.

Strangely enough for being on this subreddit I never really had a dating issue and am currently very happily married (5 years in 2 weeks). I figured this as well. Fricke withdrew from the Congressional race he knew he’d lose (CA 33rd) and then, “coincidentally”, about a month later she dumps him. She wanted to get married when he would be “Mr. Congressman“, but then it went up in smoke. She always seemed like a front-runner, so I always figured those two things were tied together.

I get where you’re coming from and don’t understand how people can be so blase/nonchalant about kids. Because among the two that got married they actually know the guys didn't have any money. This isn't some online scam where they met some guy on the internet and came to the country to date them, they were living here and met them. After living in the US for a year or more then you know who does/doesn't have money. They just happen to prefer Caucasian guys over Latin guys for a number of reasons. My wife’s from Brazil and I’m as white as you get. Pretty much all her friends are from there as well and the ones who are in longterm relationships are with white guys. Among her friends, the ones who are doing well for themselves have super-low opinions of guys from their country. It was a good weird phenomenon to notice when we started dating.
