Now I know how u/Nildovah quotes Romans 13:1 to imply that it is God's Will you submit to the authorities. But ask yourself this, if you were to go by what his interpretation of the verse is, then if the authorities told you to starve and die of dehydration and you decide not only to eat and drink but eat and drink until you and your family is full, would you be going against Romans 13:1? Arguably no, because the reach of government authority only stretches until it starts to encroach on the aut…

1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wro…

You're very confused and wasting tons of time defending a stupid position. Save the ad hominems for yourself. Here's the bottom line: To God, Marriage = Covenant + Sex. This has been well established through numerous posts throughout this sub's history. I encourage you to scour back to our early days to find them. No, the bottom line is thus: Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 When people marry before a g…

Going to have to disagree here. The state has morphed the effective legal definition of marriage into something very different than a Biblical marriage. The most ergregis example is that there is no legal penalty for affairs anymore, meaning a legal marriage is effectively an open marriage. There is a difference of what the world defines as marriage and what God defines as marriage. But a Genesis 2:24 couple is no more or less married in a government courthouse than the same type of couple in a …

Heresy? By what authority do you accuse me of this? If you counter what God says, it’s heresy. How have Christians viewed and performed marriage throughout Church history? A marriage within the Genesis 2:24 context is a marriage. A married Muslim/Hindu/Aboriginal/Sikh/etc man and woman are no less married than a Christian married couple. If you say otherwise, that is heresy as it implies a Christian single can pursue marriage with another who is already married to a non-Christian, which even goe…

Isn’t Genesis 2:24 part of the Bible?

Genesis 2:24 Is a marriage between an atheist man and woman by a secular officiate in a courthouse any less of a marriage between a Christian man and woman by a Christian officiate in a Church? How about comparing the Christian marriage to a Hindu man and woman in a temple? A Muslim man and woman in a mosque? Etc. Does Genesis 2:24 give special religious or spiritual parameters or is it according to all Mankind?

If we look at it, "A man "shall" leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become on flesh." I don't see why you need the government at all in any marriage. I never said you need government to legitimize it. Church tradition of St. Valentine has him performing marriage ceremonies underground against legal law. I’m saying legal, even religious marriages between a non-Christian man and women, even by a non-Christian officiate, outside a Christian church, are marriag…

Well first off, What is your argument with that verse? Because to me it’s vague what you are implying with it. That having sex marries two together? Because you say marriage is marriage in the eyes of God but you don’t actually define marriage. Is that not what God intended from the beginning? Again: Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 Are you saying God didn’t intend sex, the marriage act, to establish or…

Wrong? The government does not marry you. But God can use government to marry you either way, and it’s honorable to God if it’s in the boundary of Genesis 2:24. Government is appointed by God. 1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. Romans 13:1-2 Neither does the gover…

And you’re deviating from the argument of marriage. Jesus also quoted Genesis 2:24 in defense of what God established as marriage, but are you saying that for that to be legitimate, He had to reconcile 2:24 and 1:26 too, as anyone else making the same argument in reference to that verse? In the same way, you accuse yourself, as even the Devil used verses against Jesus.

What? Don't know where you got that from. It’s called looking at the implications of your argument. Traditional Christian teaching recognises marriage as a common good that is not limited to Christians. An atheist married couple who later come to faith don't need to remarry. Sex outside of marriage is called fornication. The bible does not have great things to say about fornication and fornicators. Marriage is marriage in the context of what God defined in Genesis, whether it happens in a church…

You assume wrong. Also, the Bible does clearly define marriage: Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 Either marriage is marriage in that context, or do you disagree with that by adding to it as the Pharisees do? “They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.” Matthew 23:4 Aside from Old Covenant Israel in Ezra…

Wrong. The government is established by God. Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Romans 13:1 God can work through either method. Marriage is marriage. There are only two exceptions that I would argue that perhaps God may not, or may not have, honored. I stated those two exceptions in another comment here.

I’m going to push back on your pushing. The importance is to get married rather than to burn with passion. Both methods, religious or legal, are just as viable as the other. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. 1 Corinthians 7:9

I strongly disagree with this. Get married and become one flesh in the eyes of God first, then do whatever state or social stuff you like later. There’s a word for people who have sex outside of a marriage in the eyes of God. I think it starts with an F, and I think Paul may have said something about them in Romans. Cant recall exactly. I’d say you’re wrong. Marriage is marriage in the eyes of God, with the only exceptions of this being outside the bounds of a man and woman and Israel during the…

True. Just remember that we’re part of the Kingdom, and that the nations of the world are doomed for corruption and depravity. Yet, as the dark gets darker, let your light shine brighter. You’re a beacon of the kingdom wherever you go.

Yes. But we can worship by ourselves or in a small group (as we are called to keep meeting in fellowship) or disciple each other online or in person. Of course, do what God convicts you to do, but understand you can also be “innocent as doves and crafty as snakes” as in you can find loopholes and work-arounds. The gates of hell cannot and will not prevail. I mean, in places like China or Vietnam, Christians are utterly breaking the law by worshiping or fellowshipping.

We’re supposed to submit to authorities up until it conflicts with the authority of God.

Get married legally/lawfully (like at the courthouse) and then later you can have the religious ceremony.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
