Since in a merit based system at least 50% of nominees would be women. This is far from true. Every field has a tendency towards one gender or another.

Underrepresentation does not equal discrimination. If there’s discrimination eliminate it, but you shouldn’t go out of your way for anyone in an awards ceremony. It should be about the work. Not who produces it.

it means that people have actively gone out of their way to not nominate female directors. We’d be better off going out of our way to recognize female directors until it becomes the norm

That kinda proves snowflame’s point. There’s less paraplegic directors so it’s not discrimination that keeps one from being nominated it just has a low probability. The only women directors I can name off the top of my head, besides Portman, are the Wachowski sisters and none of their work is Oscar-worthy.

I feel the same way. The movie did not live up to his performance,

Booksmart was a little better than Superbad. But yeah, definitely not that much better.

So you’re saying we should punish male filmmakers by artificially praising women’s work to counteract a history of punishing female filmmakers by artificially praising men’s work? How about we stop the sexism altogether and actually judge a film on its on merits. I’m completely blown away by people who think discrimination is the best way to counteract discrimination.

I’ve never understood racist people complaining about racism. You get to pick one. No one listens to hypocrites.

No. But they do exist.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
