However, there are a LOT of safety nets for farmers from the federal government, and the land is often worth so much (at least here in Iowa) that if it really goes to shit, they can sell the land off and instantly become quite wealthy. If you've ever been to true farm country, you'll know that farmers often have a massive house on their land, along with a brand new F-250 and GMC Yukon in their driveway.
