Looks are super important, but yes, we actually have to put in effort to change it as much as we can. gym, style, lasers for skin, and sometimes more extreme stuff. I don't really mind. They tend to just ignore you or be honest and tell you you're not their type very fast, so it saves wasting time on 'no girls'. Just move on to the next. US girls can sometimes lead you on a bit as they're so friendly

No. If you were her type she wouldn't bring up her BF in the first place (if he even exists). You can try though. interesting thing is actually that when i've been to the US i've been blown away at how receptive and friendly etc girls are compared to girls here. I tihnk in part due to the fact that not all places are like the US in terms of it being somewhat 'normal' to talk to stranger. for what it's worth I COMPLETELY agree with you. I've found any sort of neg or even light tease to be social suicide in Europe and on young girls at night in particular.
