To simplify the question; do long-term relationships predicated on romantic love work? On a balance of probabilities, it doesn't. Romantic love is a fleeting state that is a by-product of our innate drives to procreate so that we would feel inclined to provide protection and parental care to our offspring until he/she is relatively developed, to the point where they can protect themselves (more or less) and contribute to the tribe. So fundamentally, romantic love wasn't designed to last. That is…

I feel more relaxed and have a stronger sense of self-direction. I'm much more recharged after some quiet time alone than time with my girl when in a relationship; sometimes even time with good friends drains my mental "batteries" from all the humourous chatter and discussion about life and other philosophical quandaries. You're moving the goalposts. It doesn't matter who is putting the pressure on, only that it exists. OP claims that women are not subject to judgment at all and that they are told they are perfect just as they are. This is false and you seem to agree. My bad. I didn't intentionally mean to move the goal posts, so I'll concede. On the other hand, men are allowed to stagnate until any feel-good platitudes are completely useless in the face of being in objectively below average. They are told that e…

The level of disingenuousness is staggering. Women reporting to be put under pressure by society is mainly driven by other women's judgement about each other. The degree to which women claim criticisms from the opposite gender has been largely exaggerated. The notion that men aren't put under enough pressure doesn't hold weight when you consider the amount of men who check out early compared to women. Men are not told that they are fine the way they are. Maybe in the case of individual men who a…

The claim you make about 20 year-olds being more masculine doesn't hold well when you take into consideration the generational decline in testosterone levels. The 2007 study put out by the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism will show you that the the levels of T have dropped more than half in the last four decades. So, it may be that in some cases, the T levels of Millennial men in their mid-20s and 30s aren't too far off from men born in Gen X. But I do agree with you on the point…
