Xpost to r/menslib. Side note: educate yourself on dangerous vs safe people and the signs. You don't want to ignore warning signs of a dangerous person because you're trying to overcome your bias.

If you want to see how dread works in a long term relationship, just look at how many married RPs end up divorced about 1 to 2 years in. The first 6 months or so it might even seem like it's working, then everything implodes.

I think this can be super subtle and really depends on the context and how it's phrased. For example, let's say my child has a stomachache. I say to my child with a gentle voice, "I'm really sorry your tummy hurts. We probably shouldn't eat cake, and if it's still hurting tonight, I'll make you a doctor's appointment." This isn't a threat. It's a genuine concern and attempt to solve the problem. Suppose instead I say harshly, "What do you mean your tummy hurts?? No cake for you!! If your stomach…

There is a certain toxicity in parts of black culture too ( for example, considering well educated blacks to be race traitors or not black enough) but white people probably shouldn't be intersecting ourselves into that, and should be focused on our own racism instead.

Having control over emotions is a good thing; suppressing is not. People who study emotional development in children often note the unhealthy dynamic where anger is the only societally acceptable emotion for boys, while girls are allowed to express a much broader range of emotions, except of course anger. Women are expected to suppress anger (again, controlling your anger is healthy, but suppressing it is not) while men are expected to suppress the rest of their emotions. There is also less pres…

First that's not paid, so people take the bare minimum as is. Secondly, you'd be hard pressed to find an employer who wouldn't think less of a man taking off even 3 weeks for the birth of a child. Since daycare doesn't start until 6 weeks, each parent would need a minimum of three weeks off if things were equal.

Or we could have parental leave policies that apply equally to men and women and whichever parent wanted to stay home could. That's what some countries do.

Thanks for opening up and I hope you are able to find your true self. I just feel the need to say one thing in reference to the "they treated me like a guy" thing. Part of the problem is the notion that men should be tougher, not express emotion, and that it's ok to do things to boys to help them "toughen up." It's not. It's not ok to treat boys like crap or deny their feelings or make fun of them and tell them to toughen up. I don't want to diminish your recognition of being transgender, but it…

I really wonder about that, though. Surely the woman is quitting to stay home because she was already earning less? I don't have any stats unfortunately, but every single couple I know where one parent stopped working after kids, it's always been the lower paid spouse. I do know a few stay at home dads, and in every case it's because the woman was earning more. And every stay at home mom I know was making less than her husband when she quit to stay home.

Not sure if it is so much making people feel like shit as it is playing to underlying fears that certain types of men have. Those subs are like providing a collection of plane crash videos and stories for people who are afraid of flying, while claiming "all flights are like this!"

I'm very sorry. Whatever you do, DO NOT get pregnant with this man. It will be the worst mistake of your life. Unfortunately, in order for someone to change, they have to want to change. Sometimes, actually leaving is the best motivator for change. If that doesn't do it , then it's only going to get worse. I'd recommend therapy for yourself, because leaving a long-term relationship, even an abusive one, is very hard.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
