Not sure I would go for that but you raise a really good point, any events aimed at people who have just arrived at the city is a good one.

I would speak to her again and then at a high point in the conversation just ask. Don't be lazy and text her hoping she just might say yes. Don't just go up to her out of the blue and say 'Do you want to go out?' because those are both low effort, low confidence things to do. Don't ruin your chances, give yourself the best chances and see what happens. If you can't hold a conversation with her for a short while, why would she go out with you for an evening? Confidence man!

You know the answer. In person. On text they might read into it too much. 'I don't know this guy very well' 'if I agree to go out with him will he obsess over me and think we are a couple' 'etc etc'. In person you can be chill, show interest and ask her out for what it is, just two people spending some time together with no expectations other than getting to know each other and hopefully having some fun.

This happens when you're bad at reading people. Obviously everyone isn't going to instantly react positively but he should have seen they were uncomfortable and made an exit. Instead he kept trying to force himself into conversation with them and sat down.

I think this is the case. But I feel rusty and know it's something I need to work on for one it counts.

So both evaluate your own self worth, the difference is ego compares and self esteem doesn't? I can see a difference but in practice surely you'll be judging people's worth all the time? I.e is this person I'd want to pursue.

Ok so what's the difference between the two?

I approach just fine, but thanks for your suggestion.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
