Being the homekeeper in the man's absence? Cooking, cleaning, child rearing, etc. are all supposed to be tied into it you know? Just because a lot of SAHM's are lazy don't degrade the concept itself because in making a home a home it's a necessary and respectable position to keep

"along with being funny" is the only thing that matters there. Confidence is actually the worst thing to have if your personality doesn't lend itself to attracting others because it's terrifying to normal people when the weird guy isn't stumbling over himself over his obvious inadequacies during social situations. Trust me, I'm that guy. ​ Edit: Being attractive also filters out a certain amount of weirdness; it scales to how good you look

It's kind of a cultural thing OP not necessarily a game. Like a lot of things in life it's a RNG whether the people in your life practice it and I think you got lucky to have this frankly; even if you don't take advantage of it. People who set you up can have a lot of reasons but generally if they're setting you up they believe it's in your best interest and afaik it works out more often than the shotgun approach to dating.
