My point is that multiple births are more common now than they were during the early-mid 20th century. This is largely due to an increase in fertility drugs, which is why you see the biggest increase in multiple births among women 35+. Multiple births are getting more common, especially among women who are 35+, because there is an increase in the likelihood of the conception of twins if you take fertility drugs, as seen here. Secondly, women were more likely to die in deliveries of twins/triplets/other multiples. Childbirth was dangerous, and multiples made it more so.
