Interesting. I know of a certain guy who helped his wife build a business for just such reasons. After a couple years (while he was making less money) she was unable to claim less than minimum wage. //and part of the reason is some of his taxable wage helped her business (income). So after a couple tax returns she had more and he had less on paper, even though they still had enough to support the household. This business of hers could be your exit strategy. Don’t get me wrong, he sank about 20k …

I’ve read somewhere that if you can provide 2 years worth of tax returns showing low/no income you have a good chance as that being your divorce status quo for income. Not sure how you could swing that with her not working. But if you ran a home business where you were “both” earning on the tax returns….. It’s a long game, my friend.

“You will get there - I promise. You can allow yourself to have that hope that I know has to rise in you for a day in the future when this will be a distant memory. You will get there.” I’m hanging on to this.

I appreciate the visceral advice. I’ve noticed my breathing is short around her. My chest feels tight. I’ve tried to help myself by working out a couple times a week, especially cardio. It relieves a ton of stress.

I was praying for just one or two people to hope for me. I know we’re not in person and we’ll probably never meet—but I’m so grateful for the replies. If I ever get a chance to help someone in the same boat I will do it.

You're not alone in your pain. Same here, different reasons. I have no close by friends either, and it's extremely tough doing this alone.

Met her a few years after divorce. Dated, and stayed in separate homes while our kids were finishing high school. Married. Didn't rush into it. But I did see the red flags and went in anyway. There's just no excusing it. Thank you for your support.

You might get out paying a LOT less than 30-40 K once she gets a whiff of what your lawyer is writing up. She'll probably want to settle or cave. Her huge, undeniable mistake was setting the precedent that you have the kids full time. She'll probably end up paying support.

It should also be noted, the longer your have her in your house with her kids, married to you, the more family courts will savage your income and savings and give it to her. Get her out NOW!

I wish you strength and peace of mind, but.....leave her if you can afford it. Be out of the house a lot if you can.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
