Yes, I see what you mean "courage" is often framed in relation to "oppressive feminism" which is assumed to be the status quo by the likes of Andrew Tate. To this I can only answer that thinking critically is also important, as it always is.

I've really had enough of having you falsely claim what I've written. This is from the post: Men are a group that poses risks to society, and yet they are an at-risk group themselves. 4 out of 5 victims of suicide are men Scott Galloway points out that, if this was any other group, we would talk about it in terms of needing better social programs and empathy. Again, the whole article is about men and boys it goes without saying that promoting policies that support specifically men and boys is co…

I do accept that boys and me are people and not a problem. I never said they weren't a person.. these are words you've put in my mouth because you're apparently having an argument with an imaginary opponent. You're right though, there is no further point in this discussion.

I'm not repeatedly running into this problem, you are apparently—your own words: We're all noticing it because it's an ongoing pattern Most people I've shared this with have found it positive, I've had loads of positive feedback on this article, even on this sub the upvote ratio is 87%. It just seems you and a few squeaky wheels here in the comments are intent or reflecting really poorly on your group, if that was your intention, you have done a stellar job, well done.

I do know what I’m doing, I’m putting forward logical arguments, and advocating for policy change in favour of boys and young men. But yes when you refuse to accept reasonable points and instead respond with misquotes and character attacks then there appears to be little point continuing.

When did i say women are more important? Acknowledging that women also still face some challenges is just acknowledging facts. Women are equally important. You’re the one objecting to taking anyone else’s concerns into account. I’m taking the concerns of both men and women into account, this is called objectivity.

I've explained why previously. Again the solutions help men and society, non-zero-sum. And when did I say we should ignore men? The article is about the issues men face, and proposes policies to help men. Do you realise that you haven't once in this entire discussion acknowledged what women have overcome or what they face today once? And yet you accuse me of not having empathy for boys even though I've acknowledged numerous times the difficulties boys and men face, and have promoted pro-male pol…

And just some calibration of our empathy. The average man is 20% heavier, 8% taller and about 40% stronger than the average woman, so try to imagine the same situations you've been in yourself but with someone that much bigger and stronger than you. Now, there's a possibility you happen to have matched with women that are the same size and strength as you. But the average situation is the one above. And then there's 3x the chance of being killed by your partner while in a relationship or if you …

I've actually gone to great lengths to point out that I'm advocating for male-focused policies, I haven't advocated for any explicitly female-focused policies. The reason I initially raised the issue of the threat of violence women face is because I wanted to point out that it's not as simple as women were oppressed in the past, men are oppressed today. I'm making two points. The oppression men face today is a minor over-correction compared with the oppression women faced historically (so our re…

I'm not pushing feminism. I'm advocating for policies that benefit men, and also showing how they benefit society as well (which also includes men). I'm saying in the west we live in a post-feminism world where many steps have been made towards equality in one direction, some societies aren't.

Have you read the actual report? The data is much clearer, and shows that even including made-to-penetrate, 1 in 9 men report attempted or completed made-to-penetrate, while 1 in 4 women report attempted or complete rape. 1 in 26 men report attempted or complete rape. I admit, the statistics are more even than I had expected, I still think there are qualitative differences between the cases that are material—but I'm not in a position to qualify them. An important statistic that's missing in this…

It wasn't the material suggestions you were making that I had an issue with Yes, but you were denying these by suggesting that I was proposing "nothing from that society in return". You were denying these because rhetorically it makes your point sound stronger (I assume). I think getting stuck rejecting anything that can possibly be interpreted as seeing boys as a problem to be solved is going to continue to be a barrier for MRAs connecting with the general population. The general population is …

I was actually unaware of the made-to-penetrate statistics making that much of a difference, and I've looked into it and what you're saying checks out in this regard—I do find this difficult to parse as a male. A woman forcing a man to get aroused and penetrate her seems a very different experience than a man forcing himself on a woman. I'm entirely depending on my imagination here though. ... what you're proposing, to be honest: for men and boys to do their duty to help build society and expect…

I don't think women experience a greater threat of rape in society, they do. The need to try and cherry pick around this fact is baffling. You are right that my preconception about MRAs was that they were mainly motivated by conservative values, and obviously in this group of left wing advocates that is not the case. I'm not reflecting some traditional view when I describe women's fear of going out, it is a statistical reality that is consistent across the world. This is not a merely perceived f…

You make a good point, I have only addressed this issue in a 'western' context, I think it would be difficult to deal with all the possible cultural differences across the globe in such a short article, not only are there areas where men face much greater threats but also areas where feminism hasn't pushed back patriarchy as far as it has in the west. My experience is necessarily that of a "middle class white man" and the messages I hear about this issue (on the other side) are also generally fr…

I certainly have learned something about these particular sensitivities. The purpose of the post was not specifically to address this audience, it was for a general audience putting forward a logical argument, that works for everyone, I don't know what the point of writing an article suited only to one audience explicitly confirming their biases would be—which appears to be the article you'd prefer I had written. Perhaps you're noticing this pattern because it's absolutely normal to look at ever…

Yeah, the framing that if something is helping men as well as society (which includes all men) is "using" men, is pretty messed up, and sounds to the outside observer pretty entitled. It's like if you are the person who's job it is to do the dishes, and someone does the dishes for you because you were out and there were people coming over for dinner. Then you return and say, oh, I see you did the dishes... but you didn't do it for me, you only did it for all of us. That sounds pretty entitled, r…

Okay, so you’re having an argument with a sort of amalgam of people who fit a narrative you’ve noticed. Well, that’s not me, which is why you have to keep putting words on my mouth, quoting things i haven’t said. You see how this could be frustrating for someone to engage with, right?

You realise that without prison data over 90% of rape victims are women, the paper you point to reaches parity by including prison data. Last I checked when people are out in the street and assessing the threat of being raped, they are not walking through a prison. This is what I mean, these stats are accurate, but entirely misconstrued. 90% of rape victims are women. So, if you are a woman, that is the disparity in risk you face going out for a walk in the dark, rape in the prison system is irr…

I'm motivated by win-win games, I want to find solutions in all areas that have benefits for individuals and the collective. It is the entire ethos of my site—it's in my username. The solutions I've put forward have benefits for men in particular and society in general. I don't see what the problem is, can we not consider the interests of others when advocating for ourselves? I don't know of any movement that has succeeded sustainably without doing so.

Does that help some 14 year old who is looking at his future and seeing nothing but struggle? No, it doesn't which is why I am advocating for supporting those young boys. It does bring some perspective to how egregious today's issues are or aren't relative to history, so that our response can be proportionate, rather than the pure outrage of someone thinks everyone's out to get them. you just have to treat men as people instead of problems to be fixed so other people can get on with their lives …

When I say "actual explicit prejudice" I'm not trying to be snide I'm trying to illustrate the profound gap between the prejudice men face today and the prejudice women faced in the past to draw attention to the false-equivalence and the double standard being exhibited here. Thanks for your thoughts, I generally agree. I also am not strongly wedded to masculine attributes, the post, and I think Reeves and Galloway too, is wanting to promote an alternative to the toxic masculinity that is being promoted to young men, who want to be seen as masculine and saying "not all masculinity needs to look like UFC". As for those not looking at masculinity as a defining characteristic, I assume they are less vulnerable to manipulation in that dimension of their personality, and …

I appreciate your fair tone and reasonableness in this discussion. But I've heard similar claims to these in the past and haven't seen any evidence for them that hasn't been entirely misconstrued, or actually makes a material difference—like for instance claiming that men are more likely to be attacked, doesn't take into account that we live in a world where women avoid going out alone (so they don't get attacked because they're at home), and disregards the woman's ability to defend themselves c…

You seem to have gotten distracted by trigger words and missed the point of the post. Everyone matters, and when some man (usually) murders someone, it's actually more likely to be a man who is murdered, so I'm saying it benefits society in general (including men). Sorry if I haven't phrased things in a way that appeals to your need to have everything only take your needs as a man into account and no one else's. Are you against prison reform? Or male teachers? there was also a privileged woman who was with a privileged man. What are you talking about? Only 150 years ago women couldn't vote, did a woman get her vote if she was with a wealthy man? Thanks for your comment, I think your points are fair. I'd like to clarify that my lack of empathy is not intended to be directed at men and boys but rather what I see as a particularly entitled and self-serving form of men's rights advocacy that denies or ignores the validity of historical prejudice when considering what is just and fair in the world today, and seems to want to deny any disadvantages that women still face today (like being the majority of rape victims and domestic abuse victims…

I appreciate your points here. And I take your point that the race issue is not directly analogous, but it is partially analogous. Although anecdotes are not data, it's telling that my anecdote is about a woman in her 40s dealing with grandfathered in bosses in their 50s and 60s and your anecdote is about new hires who are good at socialising (something that older employees have always said about younger employees whether they're male or female). Rather than repeating the exact comment, I think my reply to Logos89 answers the first section of your comment. When women have a problem, all of society has an obligation to help them. When men have a problem, well, that's 100% their issue, and they need to solve it entirely on their own. I think you're forgetting the stipulation "... a problem, that is, in large part, the result of 1000s of years of male domination, then all of society has an obligation to help them". Thanks for your comments, I actually agree with pretty much all of that block of text (dude.. paragraphs!). On your points of disagreement. To me the goal shouldn't be about creating some new healthier standard for masculinity. It should be about extending empathy to individuals who are male as humans in need of and deserving of help. I think you should consider the girls in sport analogy more seriously, try to look at it as if it were being employed not as a new policy. If we measured, say, black people, as having lower IQs than white people, do you think it would be stigmatizing to make a less strenuous educational track for them? Of course it would. Three points. Having a lower IQ and developing-later are entirely different propositions. One is stigmatising because it limits the person's abilities and condemns them to a life of being considered lesser based on a metric many find important. The other is not-stigmatising because it has zero implications for one…

What did we start? I believe you were saying that the lack of sympathy for MRAs came before MRAs started communicating in a way that would lead to a lack of sympathy. Redshirting boys isn't saying that boys are intellectually inferior, it's saying they mature later—which they do. Galloway talks a lot about this issue, more so than Reeves, you might find his style and manner more accomodating. I don't find the term "patriarchy" very useful, and generally don't use it. Hi again WhereProgressIsMade, I do cover in the post why courage is somewhat protected against abuse, defining it as "doing something difficult because it's the right thing to do" or clarified by Christine Emba "for the good of others". In this way for something to be courageous the intent at least needs to be good. I don't mean this to be flippant, but have you read post itself? So far you seem to have only addressed the title.
