Honestly don't let anyone tell you you need high-level hardware for any task. It's just more efficient, and in the cases of color sensitive work, will improve quality of work to be able to have a high level of color reproduction on your monitor. However for a majority of content turning the resolution down to 720p preview while editing won't hurt the final product.
