It honestly does get to the point for some dudes where it's more worth it to die alone than to painfully change something so core about your character for years and years without any guarantee of success. Like literally one every few days if I just walk around, and I'm a shut-in so I don't go out a lot. I think the prevalence of this varies depending on where you live. I also did around 10 cold approaches in my life (which is basically nothing but at least I tried it) when I was around 20 years old.
