Male children are also killed in higher numbers than female children. Some other interesting stats here too.. If I remember correctly, mothers are also much more likely to kill their children then fathers are?

The 15% unemployment rate for males specifically leading to (civil) war was what I was intrigued by. Quite a few EU countries currently have high unemployment, and are avoiding civil war (although there has been a lot civil unrest in f.ex Spain and Greece). Maybe we're better equipped now to deal with it now than in the previous century, at least for short-term <5-10 years worth of higher unemployment in western countries. I guess linking unemployment to a country's stability works both ways tho…

I saw it because of the Rotten Tomatoes rating (against my better judgement), and ended up being completely underwhelmed. Props and effects were pretty good, acting and actor chemistry was pretty shit. Kate McKinnon's acting made it seem like she didn't really belong, and was only used as (a bad) comic relief. Don't pay to watch it.

No, it's probably closer to 1 in 140 or some shit. You're not too far off. I'm not sure where I saw it, but I think it was from Christina Hoff Summers, and the number of actual US college rapes is 1-2 in 100. Obviously still too many, but nowhere near 20%.

If the man decides he wants to keep it, then 3 months down the line get's cold feet. Then that's his own fault for not thinking things through, he already had the option to say no when the pregnancy could still be terminated. If the woman changes her mind, then she is forced to continue, there's not much she can do other than give it away after it's born. I'll have to disagree with you on this subject. You can't honestly think it's okay to force a woman through a 9 month long pregnancy if she's not ready to have a child? Also, from what I've seen; a relationship where the man is ready, and the woman is not, the relationship would continue, even if the woman had an abortion against the fathers wishes. It just doesn't work the other way.

It depends on the relationship. They might realise that as a couple, they aren't ready to have a child and stick together until they are. However, in any scenario where the mother is forced to keep/abort a child the relationship would most likely end.

Like gprime said, you can't really compare the two. Unless you were storing the money inside your body for 9 months the analogy does not work. I understand what you are saying though, but ultimately you can't force a woman to commit to a pregnancy she does not want. Until pregnancy is carried out in a controlled medical facility where no human body is used to carry the child, the woman should always have the last say in whether or not the pregnancy should be continued.

Spot on! Just to clarify, I wasn't whining about it being just up to the man. I'm personally vigilant when it comes to using protection. I was just making a point about women always talking about how it's the guys responsibility. And if she gets pregnant, it's because the guy didn't wrap up.

Well that's the whole point of this debate. Men should have the right to opt out. I'm not saying they shouldn't. But I don't think a man should be able to force a woman to continue, or to abort a pregnancy. Either one could probably scar her for life, and as such the decision should be completely up to her. Yeah, I agree with you - and there should be sub clauses in the law if the father can prove that he did not know that the woman was pregnant. But then again, that could cause a lot of he said/she said scenarios. I definitely think an "opt out" would work better than an "opt in". It's better to assume the father does want the kid than the other way around. It would probably also save a load of paperwork for whoever would be organising this stuff. I also don't think marriage should come into this at all. I do agree with a mandatory DNA test before any financial agreements are finalised though. I think the woman should have the final say in whether or not she wants the baby, after all it is her body. Forcing a person to have a child probably does all kinds of bad things to his/her mental well being. However, like others have said, the man should have the option to "divorce" the kid, and thus cut all financial obligations to it - as long as it's done during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy (or however far along you're still able to have an abortion).
