I don't really want anyone taking close-up pictures of just me when I'm in public. Landscape shots don't bug me in the slightest, but an unsolicited portrait of me raises some basic issues. It is creepy and intrusive. Unlike a casual glance, photos are "permanent" and demonstrate a significant interest in me above and beyond a glance. It's closer to someone staring at you and refusing to look away. It's also rude.

I can't tell if you're name and comments are serious or not. To be safe, I'm going to invoke Poe.

No, they're not. A fair process will lead to reasonably fair results. There is no need to inject discrimination to achieve that goal. Stop mis-typifying huge groups and twisting their goals, you bigot.

Since women seem to harp on this issue, I support the "everyone is inconvenienced approach". It was amazingly difficult to get my last GF onboard with the idea. She really did think it was her inherent right to leave the lid up and my duty to leave the seat down. It would have been comedic except it actually brought real tension into our relationship (wtf). Normally, I'd just go along (everyone's got quirks), but her adamant refusal to even consider she was also being inconsiderate got under my …

I refuse to engage in reverse-racism. I will not stop demanding equality for myself AND others merely because I am white. I will not feel guilty because other people are oppressed through no fault or inaction of my own. I will not bear the burden of the world's problems when I have not caused them.

Sorry, if a prostitute (of a level that I would be attracted to) can charge several times my hourly wage for a single hour of sex, I don't see how I'm exploiting her. The transaction is very clear, honest, and favours her. I don't see how being made into an object for others' gratifications is especially dehumanizing, when it's done willingly and is economically viable. When was the last time you got to know your cab driver? Or your doorman? Or the person who bags your groceries? We view most of…

There's a lot of suppressed anger, resentment, and contempt in that video. It's aimed at "men". Not a man in particular. At our whole gender. Fuck everything about that. Bigotry isn't acceptable, regardless of whether you have an innie or an outie.

My first college was filled with radical feminists like that. It was difficult to remain ... civil.... I've found my life is much more pleasant when I'm not around fanatics of any stripe.

Oh bull. Circumcision is the default position. It's hardly being contentious to claim that it is. You might as well claim Baptists don't baptise.

I'll ignore the obvious differences between the two and just say: WTF... people are piercing babies ears, now? Why? I think it's time to build that cabin in the woods I've dreamed of. Modern society is becoming unintelligible to me.

I'm tired of cops not being accountable. I know it's probably confirmation bias kicking in, but FFS. There's a new "bad cop" story every fucking few days. It's time for all on-duty cops who are not involved in undercover work to be wearing a tamper proof camera that records audio and POV. edit: a few instances of a particular crime is frequently used to justify a new law in the US, so why are there so many bloody examples of shitty cops getting away with murder and no new laws are even considere…

From the sounds of it, everyone fell over themselves trying to mitigate the consequences of her choices. In a sane world, that means either what she did wasn't that bad, or she got off lightly because everyone realized the law is assuming nonexistent harm. In her case, I'm sure the law naming her partner as within the age of consent weighed in her favour, but she still bulldozed her way past exploitation of a power-filled relationship. That said, this is one of those 'well, where's the actual ha…

Indeed. The quicker everyone embraces the idea that making (nearly) irrevocable changes to infants is good, the better (excepting "innie" bellybuttons... outies's are gross :P).

That's a stupid article. It dances from "we're not all the same" to "you're wrong, we are all the same", then lists the aggregate yes/no as a list. WTF. I don't fit on a five point list. No one does.

Come on. I wouldn't take a blog entry as evidence I had a bowel movement yesterday (let alone a letter sent to a blog). Up your standards, guys. Sheesh. Sweden might be a terrible place to be a man... there might be roving bands of castrating parties... maybe. But a blog? Since when is a blog dependable. If this is our standard for this /r/, we should demand better. We can do better. ಠ_ಠ

If you cannot show a well-founded and immediate medical risk, you should not be lopping off any parts from infants. Boys, girls, or... err...hirl? gim? "It" is clearly not appropriate. What do people call indeterminate-sexed children. anyways? Seriously... is there a word in English, or just awkward silence?

Your nose may develop melanoma. I guess you've lopped yours off, right? Right? Braces serve a social function. If you're going to place circumcision in the same group, you're arguing for mandatory breast enlargement and the like. I won't even bother addressing your false equivalence about vaccinations. I will address your inability to form coherent examples and logic to support your argument. You're a tool.

also: NEVER EVER STICK YOUR DICK IN A DRUNK GIRL Seconded. Never ever ever ever. When drunk, you can form consent. Apparently, women can't. Why? Because penis, that's why. Also, make sure you have read your college's stance on what constitutes harassment., consent and the like. Some are sane, others are batshit-crazy. Legalities aside, if you don't want your transcript to read like a rap sheet, read your school's policies. It took me (and my fellow council members) 2 years to get my colleges' Se…

WTF? This isn't about gender rights, this is about public health policy and about spending public monies where they will net the best results. Both genders spread STDs. Preventing the spread of any disease is cheaper than treatment. In example, men carry HPV which can cause cervical cancer in women. Chlamydiae and gonorrhea can also be 'silent', yet easily transmittable. Work time lost to preventable diseases (never mind the misery and consumer cost) should strongly argue for funding to mitigate…

What's equally scary is the blase acceptance of jail-rape as an attendant 'hidden cost' of prison. People almost seem to relish the idea that criminals will be raped. WTF. Prison violence and rape is none other than vigilantism. It's long past time for the prison system to be reformed so that only the state-ordered sanctions impact prisoners.

If you live in a civilized part of the world, counselors are supposed to be accredited by professional organizations that actively police their members. The appropriate response is to make a formal complaint detailing ethical breaches. Then you get a new practitioner. One with ethics and professional training.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you are a big enough of a person that you can move past pain/resentment and not let it cloud your future interactions. I made my post mainly to vent and find a tiny bit of peace. As I'm not a forgiving sort, I can't really hope to move on, but I encourage you to work out issues and not let your pain limit you. GL in your future experiences.

This is why I will never again co-habitate. My last GF started letting slip her wedding desires around 9 months despite my adamant and very vocal objection to marriage. During that, I watched my mother strip the second of 2 men of their worldly goods via either a co-habitation agreement or common-law 'brown-bag' marriage (plus sketchy 'domestic abuse' charges and a good lawyer). One is dead, the other is nearly done drinking himself to death. Meanwhile, she's made out nicely on the housing bubbl…

Top up her earnings to meet Canada's median income. Pay that for 5 years (plus inflation blah blah). Or, offer a one-time education gift equal to tuition for a 4-year professional or academic certification. She already has skills, or could upgrade them. It would be insulting and denigrating to her sex to treat her as an invalid incapable of re-skilling to achieve her personal goals. That said, I'm sure she'll play the victim card and claim she's permanently ruined by mere proximity to bales of c…

Sorry, but 'men' don't need to do anything. My gender isn't to blame for the excesses of some bastards any more than 'women' bear the blame for my crazy ex. Likewise, honest people aren't to blame for the liars. Rapists are the ones who should stop. Sexists need to stop. So do bigots. Etc. As an innocent man, I refuse to bear the lash intended for the guilty. Fuck off.

The first college I attended brought in a similar standard. It propelled me into student government and, despite bringing many of the student bodies around and convincing many of the faculty that sat on the college Senate that it was a terrible law, it still took us two fucking years to file down its fangs. Of course, we were portrayed by the campus feminist groups as pro-rape, enslavers of women, and the like. It was a sickening display of radical feminisms hatred of rationality and logic. I wa…

Nowadays, paranoia is the 'safer' route; the world is upside down and we are left hanging on for dear life. Of course, it's totally ridiculous that the system is so broken, but failing to anticipate crazy shit from a crazy system is foolish.

Mother's have been primed by media to believe random strangers are a threat. Of course, reality tells us their family members are much more likely to abuse their kids. Inadequate science education and a compliant public is to blame. Of course, we shouldn't absolve media of their share of the blame... they allow and encourage stupid people's opinions by airing them... People are ignorant and many are too stupid to operate simple machinery without requiring detailed instructions. For some reason, …

When the stomach decides its had enough, it engages the gear labelled 'reverse peristaltic action'... vomit ensues, naturally. Pregnancy is the same. A fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall, hormones cascade and 9 months later, a child is forcibly evicted. Much like vomiting, pregnancy is a usually healthy response to non-conscious stimuli and is not worth of comment, let alone praise. If 51% of the population can nominally nurture a fetus to term, it is neither unique or innately worthy o…

"Waldeck’s perspective on male circumcision spoke to her early point about female circumcision— that the cultural aspects have to be taken into account when determining laws if they are going to be effective." Sorry, ritual genital mutilation should be gently approached via Cultural Relativism? WTF? That's odd... most people are quite happy decrying female mutilation. Why are they so slow to decry male mutilation? Methinks the issue isn't about respecting 'context' so much as being willfully ign…

“At meetings women nod their head to show they are listening. Men think the woman is agreeing with them. He then assumes the women will go along with his idea. He is surprised when she later disagrees, since she nodded her head. She has no idea why he thought she agreed with him since he never asked her.” Actually, this exact thing has bit me in the ass for several months; I am just NOW getting used to it. I'm extremely tired of questionable statistics from poorly formed studies being used in shaping public concerns and public policy. From immigration to war profiteering to fat consumption, many of the most important topics concerning a potential democratic impetus-to-change are just being ignored in favor of biased nonsense that merely reiterates our commonly-held notions. In a fair world, 'studies' like this shouldn't even pass a basic publication test, let alone the media coverage test. It's to…

In my 20 years of work, my personal experience shows that childless women take much more time off than childless men do. Much more. As an example, in the past five years, I've only worked with women. During that time, I've worked with nearly 25 women. Our jobs are all pretty close in terms of duties etc. In five years I've taken 5.5 sick days off. One woman nearly matches me with around 7 days over 4.5 years. Not bad at all. The rest lag far behind. Many average 2 days a month. 1 averaged 4 days…

I ran this by my female assistant. She's intelligent, decently educated and seemed, up to this point, level headed. Her response frightened me. Her response: Well, it's for the good of the child. Every rejoinder I used (including the 'court enforced 20 years of child support; tatamount to court ordered slavery' argument) was responded to by the same 'good of child' response. Once 'baby' was mentioned, 'baby' was the only thing that mattered. Apparently, men's rights aren't anywhere as important …

The article didn't really get to the nub. I'm angry because, having worked nearly exclusively with women for the past 6 years, I see the same trends time after time. Men are there to provide: money to her and her children, sex on demand, do whatever the 'honey-do' list says, do whatever the gf wants and otherwise stay out of the way and don't complain. Or, as one of my last assistants put it more succinctly: 'yup, it's a great time to be a woman'. After several longterm relationships, I've not t…
