100%. I wanted to add that in any time of chatting/vetting/dating if you start to think to yourself 'probably a bad move' about a way you're handling yourself, trust that instinct and STOP. That's the loving part in you that cares about you and it's letting you know that you're not respecting yourself. The more you listen to this part, the wiser you'll become.

I like the question you brought up. The older I get, the more I begin to accept that I like the idea of being in a good, healthy relationship but if I were to dig down deep and really listen to my heart of hearts, I don't think I want to be (or do what it takes to be) in a relationship. I have so many other interests, passions, goals and above all I highly value my freedom and independence. I am not sure I am willing to give that up, under any circumstances, if I was being absolutely truthful wi…

I understand completely. This is the environment I was raised in: that it's a female's job to understand and support everyone else around them, particularly the males. As a child I was not really allowed to have my own thoughts or feelings, my experiences were always invalidated and so I gave up pretty early on and honestly believed that my only worth was serving others and how much I could 'people please'. As I got older this terrible and unhealthy point of view was continually validated and re…

Agreed. This is a definite red flag that your interests, passions, hobbies, etc are a total inconvenience to them and do nothing to serve their selfish desires, which is clearly the purpose of this date with you. They are not there to get to know you and they could care less about who you are as a person.

Exactly! Could obsessing over finding a savior, a relationship, a man who makes everything better be an excuse to ignore the work you’ve really been called to do? Look around. Are there projects you’ve meant to complete but haven’t? Are there odds and ends that need to be cleaned up or wrapped up, put away, dealt with? Things you look at everyday but then walk past? Are there skills you need to develop further so that you can be more armed to go out and get what you want with confidence? Is ther…

Agreed. The difference is confidence doesn't need any external validation whilst arrogance is a desperate search for validation and affirmation.

Yes! This is EVERYTHING. Well put: "the right men will be attracted to your confidence and love for yourself. My husband understood the importance of self love and being happy on his own before I even entered the picture." Most guys, most people, have attraction/repulsion for confident and self-loving people; the want to be near them but then fear them, and some with issues try to tear them down or belittle them because they have such feelings of worthlessness on the inside.

Could you take a minute to reflect on why is it that you are so flattered and taken by a man who showers you with "connection" and lame, vague "compliments", despite him clearly showing he has no respect for you? What might this say as a red flag to yourself about potentially low self-esteem, self-worth, possibly not seeing things as they really are, out of desperation? Trust your instincts; it's pretty obvious from your post his disrespectful comments are bothering your truest self.

Please, any energy you do have, put it into YOURSELF, and growing/healing/loving yourself. This guy is emotionally wearing you down, and it's all to his benefit. The more he exhausts you, the longer you will ignore all his red flags and inexcusable behavior and be subservient to his needs. He is using you and your energy.

"My ancestors that were denied an education could have never imagined what I would have become and I decided to stop shrinking myself to make other people feel better." YES!!!!! Keep leveling up!

Agreed. This a lesson learned when I was in my 20s dating. I thought I was being upfront and clear, and weeding out LVM by articulating my dealbreakers early on and expressing what I value and look for in a man. I realized after some bad experiences that I was giving them a playbook and what to hide/lie about to stay in my good graces, or at least secure a few more dates. Beware of a man with whom you've just begun talking to and he already is asking for a list of dealbreakers! He's only wanting…

This is something that happens so frequently. It's not just the 'too beautiful' thing, it can also be 'too educated/smart', 'too savvy/successful', 'too many hobbies', 'too healthy/taking too good care of yourself', 'too confident', basically any trait of a HVW. I have found that men that come from more well-to-do backgrounds are more insecure then their 'working class' counterparts. No matter how considerate, understanding, and down to earth you might be, and even if you show nothing but loyalt…

I used to be a serial dater of engineers. I've dated mechanical, nuclear, computer, electrical, and civil before. They love being around intelligent, well-read women. However, each one of them was huge into control- think about it: their jobs are about figuring something out, mastering a solution. They see women as such. I've also dated men in IT, finance, actuarial science, a lawyer, a cop, and a couple of blue-collar workers. All my family is in healthcare, mostly physicians, and I learned ear…

100% this! I've went out on dates with many of these types; they seem to be one of the most common types of LVM. Usually I can tell in 1-2 dates these guys are clingers (extremely controlling via them immediately putting all their emotional needs/desires on you, a virtual stranger). Sometimes though they are able to control their controlling behaviours (probably from learning from past that women don't like this) and are able to put on a cool, calm, collected act but it ALWAYS starts unraveling …

Yes! To you, and everyone on here, please continue to level up and continue establishing and sticking to perfectly reasonable boundaries! Ironically, I've had three LTRs with three different LVM and each of them at some point in the relationship championed me to set stronger boundaries with abusive and unhealthy family members, which I ended up doing with their encouragement. It definitely helped improve my mental health and overall life doing so. I learned to sacrifice my self-respect and self-…
