Someone is sarcastic about your post and you tell them to break their fingers? I'm new to Reddit but can't see this kind of behaviour endorsed by the site owners. Please can you give me tips, as I'm obviously not being obnoxious enough.

Nice, not even slightly arrogant way to welcome a Redditor /s

We aren't all that stupid honestly. Don't resent us all - just the pathetic ones. They have serious problems with their priorities and putting things into perspective. Wonder which man it was that let the cat out of the bag...

Don't assume that other people are as thoughtful and rational as you. It will drive you mad.

So should he be ignored and ridiculed? By your logic, wouldn't the man that felt this way also be sexist? I don't think it's that clear cut.

The parts about adoption and the men's rights to play chess particularly made made me mad. Where has common sense gone? But the opening question and absolute assumption in this article that we all came to the same conclusion as her really enraged me. It's not surprising aethralloy thinks there are still 3.5 billion more women to convince about this. There are some women out here that totally and absolutely don't think this way or jump to these conclusions.

Yes they are! I might have a lot to learn about posting on here but these guys still rile me.

Nah - they aren't effective enough. I mean - really flush!

Sorry - Some of the first comments on here were utterly pathetic. Think they are buried by now. I commented on them first without putting the context. You ever wish there was a cretin button you could press to flush away the dregs?

Imagine having a life so empty and wanting you have to prowl around with your mouse waiting for opportunities to post such inane, Senseless shite (sorry it was the best word for my feelings) To other people who clicked on this for the right reasons... It was an eye opener for me and if I ever see a guy who seems to be in this situation I will endeavour to make him feel more comfortable.

I feel sorry for you.

No - I agree - that was childish of me so - sorry. But- talking of cliques - I know you have your opinion but it was pretty hard to get a differing view out there with all the other people out there. and it probably had a lot do do with the example from my own experience. I just don't want the OP to give on something that could be easily fixed by a proper discussion and resetting boundaries.

I dont think my father would say he was emotionally abused. He just helped his vumerable wife adjust to the situation and she was sometimes moody an unreasonable. The point was that she changed after they got married but it was something that could be worked through. Without talking to his wife he won't even know if it is something that can be worked through. If she is being like that because she is immature and needs reassurance then there is hope. If she is just being a bitch to break him then…

She was hard work for a year. She didn't 'abuse' him for a year. She was moody and snapped at him a lot. That's not abuse - that's being unreasonable. He could have walked out but he didn't because he understood - they had discussed why she got like that sometimes. It's not one conversation, click you fingers and everything is better. She worked at not reacting to her insecurities like that and he was patient and loving. We've talked about it and a lot of what they tell me about their early argum…

Yes she was a bitch to my dad. I was the one that volunteered that information. Truth. The point is - she wasn't doing it to intentionally manipulative at the time. He understood why she was acting that way. She realised she shouldn't be taking it out on him and shouldn't try to test him and she has bee a very good wife ever since.

I never said you were partial. I said I didn't understand how you could object to a husband and wife talking things through before the husband made a final decision to end a marriage. Not precious about anything in particular. And absolutely no aggression.

Yeah and he talked to her and worked out what was wrong and they worked through it together. That worked out better and probably quicker than divorce. They had conversations during that time. So really if he is very happy, and they worked things out and have a very strong relationship then - in my humble opinion - it's a good thing he didn't initiate divorce.

Their 35th anniversary cake was too yummy for me to agree with that statement. You don't need much information to form your opinions do you? You must be awesome.

Passive-aggressive as in 'not aggressive'? :-) oh dear. He's already thinking of getting an annulment. He can still do that once he's spoken to her. Having a rough time when my mother got upset and moody for a few months isn't a 'history of abuse'. I gave ONE example how things might not always be as they seem, and strangely enough, worth the effort. I never said his situation was the same. Get a grip. The OP now has one other point of view (oh as well as the 'dump her in a lake' one.) I'm sure …

And sometimes marriage is all butterflies and rainbows... Yes - There are bitches out there - some complete bitches, there are also times when people have emotional things to deal with. These things can sometimes be helped by having a patient spouse who meant what they said at the alter. Or - we can all just say nasty, reactionary things all night...

Yes - real people are always cool with each other, all of the time - because that's real life... Erm...

A talk with your loved one doesn't take more than a couple of hours (less if you can't be arsed to talk things through properly) so should not halt the proceedings too dramatically (perhaps could be done out of office hours?). They were engaged for nearly a year. If you are totally impartial, two hours wouldn't bother you too much and at least you would know the OP was completely clear about what he wanted to do when he filed the papers.

Exactly - at least find out if you are able to deal with a bit of shit together cos it gets harder when the kids come along and parents die etc. If you've been through tough times together at the beginning you can deal with it together as strong partners. Nobody is perfect and women aren't always rational.

Not great advice - by saying not to write off an annulment altogrther but to talk to his spouse? And yes - women can be strange to men - we think and act differently. All I'm saying is don't just give up so soon without trying to find out from her if she has (probably not very rational) reasons for turning like that. If she is indeed just a cold hearted bitch then fine. If everyone just got out of there at the first sign of trouble without trying to sort things out where would we be.

I know - could have come across like she was a crazy bitch but she was just having a hard time adapting. After a few months they were best friends again - and still are.

She was insecure. She's blind, they moved away from her family and all she had was him. Luckily my dad looked after her and they have been happily married for 35 years. My dad just put effort into the marriage because sometimes you have to put a bit of effort into marriage...

Before you go and try and get an annulment try asking her about her behaviour. Us women are strange! She might be feeling like she needs things to feel more different than they do after your life changing day. Or she might have expected things to be magically better after you got married and could have been holding back things she finds to be problems in your relationship and all she needs is to talk them through with you. She could - of course have caught the Princess virus - but it's not the o…
