Well there is a huge difference between giving sex workers rights and trying to help human trafficking victims. I believe both can be done simultaneously.

I am in support for legal prostitution because I can't think of a reason to outlaw it. The dangers in sex work are present mostly because the industry mostly lives in the shadows. Sex workers should be taxed and supported by the government like any other profession. Creating a clean and safer work environment could not only reduce STD rates in our country but also bring in a lot of tax revenue.

No I'm using my first hand professional experience not assumption. They're not all lazy but some are. Others don't like dealing with domestic violence or sexual assault because they think it's a waste of time and the victims fault. Other cops are amazing and work hard for community members. I'm calling it like I see it. I've had cops verbally tell me they don't believe a victim because they've responded to a domestic dispute before and the victim stayed with her attacker so there was "no possibl…

I think you need to read my previous comments. I say exactly that. My point is sometimes because the police choose to not believe the victim or because they think it'll be to hard to collect evidence, they choose to just not try at all. I'm saying their refusing to investigate sometimes for a variety of reasons.

I understand the point your making but I don't know if I see it that way. In my opinion only, I think most attackers come from backgrounds where some kind of abuse is present. I heard a statistic once that something as extreme as a child in the environment of some kind of abuse is 500 times more likely to be abused or be an abuser themselves. I think our progressive stance towards sex being normal and healthy is only going to work if the right kind of mental health counseling is available to all…

This is not a deposition, this is a message board style place. There was no need for that. If people want to be sexual violence apologists that's their business but don't get personally cruel with people who have the balls to share personal stories. If she was giving personal information on her attacker and crossing the line of slander, then I would understand it. But she was anonymously talking about her experiences and adding to the debate. Way, way different things in my opinion.

I don't think the the question is very logical because the entitlement between men and women tend to be very different in the stereotypical way we view gender as a society. You can't just flip this one most women wouldn't act like that. Some men feel entitled to any woman they feel like they earned her. Some women feel entitled to a certain level of treatment that she doesn't always have to reciprocate. Both are seriously lacking self awareness and dripping with delusion. They're different anima…

He was debating the fact whether she was raped or not, if you need reference read above. If your prerogative is to defend that than by all means it's a free country. But he was harassing her by questioning if she was ever attacked in the first place which last time I checked was publicly questioning her honesty. When you're telling someone who has had things forcibly penetrated into their bodies that they haven't been raped until their attacker is convicted, I'd say that's pretty close to harass…

We're obviously debating rape culture, not her specific rape. Unless you missed the original post the from OP. Stick to the subject matter please and don't waste all of our time.

Well it''s over now but just because she brought up a personal story doesn't give the anyone the right to grill her credibility. Have a heart.

I think you're going a little to far into her personal life now. You've made your point, not everyone agrees with you, no move on because you're approaching harassment now. I pray that you or someone you love is never sexually assaulted. And if for some horrible reason that happens, I hope nobody ever talks to your or them like how you're talking right now to her. It's really sad.

I'm sorry that you think that's propaganda but the psychology and the criminal justice community would disagree.

I was going to respond to you seriously, but after writing a long response I see you've linked a slanted propaganda blog and an article written by a person promoting a book. So I can't waste my time with a serious answer to your questions until you do some more balanced reading. On offense meant, it would just be a waste of both of our times.

I definitely hear your points no matter if I agree with them or not. Just to answer a few things you've kinda asked. This is a lot of words, but none of it has any practical meaning. Feminists themselves can't agree on what "objectification of women" means. What exactly is "misogynistic language"? How does one realistically make the mental jump between calling a woman a slut and applauding when she's assaulted? The idea that this is a normalized, frequent occurrence is ludicrous. I can't go outs…

Yes and that's not what I was referring to. I was referring to misleading victims of sexual assault by law enforcement because they are not wanting to do their jobs for a variety of reasons.

My opinions only as a feminist man, who has volunteered as a rape crisis counselor: For me the biggest evidence that rape culture in a widespread cultural issue is the way the media writes about it. The language most publications use towards the victims of sexual assault is full of microaggressions about being guilty of something themselves. Even very liberal and feminist friendly publications are guilty of it too. More on that I think transparent legal proceedings after sexual assault would go …

Actually I am a man, and I do not feel treated like a potential felon. That seems like a personal problem from your point of view. The fact is that women have to deal with a lot of crap that you and I don't have to, yet you seem to view yourself as a victim in this situation. I personally don't feel victimized by people stating the facts of discrimination of our culture. The fact is women are far more harassed to act a certain way to deter men from behavior than vice versa. I am a innocent man a…

I look at it this way. The only reason you are a man is the luck of the draw in relation to your parent's DNA. You could have most likely been a girl too, but scientifically you ended up a boy. So why should we treat people differently based off the combination of their parent's DNA? That seems to be a very unintelligent and misinformed thing to do.

I don't really care how I come across to you. I care about ending sexual assault. I'm going to end our debate because you clearly believe people who are coerced and intimidated into sex are to blame because "When adults are in situations where they are uncomfortable with how things are turning out then they should make that known." Talk about contradicting yourself. You tell me to not judge people's lives, there you go judging why some people don't say no before they are sexually assaulted. If t…

I think you need to look up the definition of feminism. I think most women would in fact believe in being equal to men. And that's what feminism is. People cannot change the definition of a long standing equal rights movement because some idiots who identify with the movement are doing it wrong. The movement still stands for helping women be able to vote, have the power to decide her reproductive health, not be forced into marriage, not be sold as objects, not be discriminated in education or th…

Or maybe we need to start giving women a stronger sexual voice and let her speak for herself. If people don't like it, they can get over it by jerking off.

I'm a technical Atheist because I don't believe in a god in any kind of sense in which a religion thinks. I think worshiping a human or animal as a symbol of god is actually very manipulative and self serving. I believe in the fucking cosmos. Whatever that is out there, which includes what we have yet to discover, is our true "god".

Consent is not that hard to understand. A person needs to give a very clear affirmative response before anything sexual happens. The person also has to be able to give a response without their ability being compromised (mental illness, under the influence of drugs or alcohol). Also, absolutely no level of force, threats or intimidation can be used to get your yes. If you don't get a straight answer, then control yourself and don't have sex with the person. We are humans and not animals. We can c…

As a gay man, I feel like I have a personal boundary line. For example I'm ok with women considering me one of the girls and saying such because it's harmless and I do happen to enjoy women's platonic company more than men. However it crosses a line for me when people assume how I feel about activities or political opinions. IE "Don't talk about football you guys, obviously he's not interested" or "You're obviously not going to vote Republican because gays hate republicans, right?"

Good point. I guess you'd have to ask a masculine female but I'd assume that to be correct.

That works except for discrimination, no matter for what reason, is a real problem even today. So you can't take decades of social activism and undermine it just because you don't like what some people say on the internet. It's simply misleading people to say "straight white men" have ever experienced any form of discrimination even close to literally any other demographic. However, that absolutely does not mean all "straight white men" are perpetrators of discrimination. The two should not be a…

See I agree with that to a point. However, from my experience, men outnumber women greatly in shaming gender roles. It's much more of a common occurrence for me to receive anti-gay opinions or problems with my femininity from men. For example I've only ever had two women in my life tell me I was too feminine, while I've been called gay slurs and been told to not act like a girl literally hundreds of times by men. It's just a reality.

Some really interesting ideas here. Following your idea of the primate tribe mentality, do you think that the growing sentiment of tolerance and acceptance in the western world of those who do not conform in areas like gender and sexuality are humans evolving past the primate mentality and moving onward or just a shift in what it means to conform because appearing tolerant is what it currently means to fit in and be a part of the majority?

In many times and places having a mistress was not a sign of disloyalty, but merely a sign of virility. Can the same not be said for a man having multiple wives or legal partners? What stops us from labeling polygamy as the alpha male or female's expression of sexuality?

All the things you listed could just as easily be blamed on men. Also just because you draw comparisons to how Islamic cultures are more sexist than western ones, does not automatically make our culture free of sexism. That's like a person telling their spouse to not complain about verbal abuse because they know someone who gets physically abused.

Wouldn't a slew of mistresses cause similar effects on children and young men also? I feel like a disloyal alpha in a family would be more damaging than a polygamous household.

Personally I support the legalization of polygamy for two reasons. One, I believe it's not the government's responsibility or right to prohibit unions between any consenting adults. And two, because I don't see where a person can support gay marriage and not support polygamy because like you said, it's a very similar debate. A couple of years ago I couldn't get married and now I can. I know what it feels like to not have your relationship legally validated and protected so maybe I sympathize too…
