In my home country there's a saying: The one who did nothing has nothing to fear. I'm a strong believer that truth always sees the light at the end. By talking to her partner first the mother may have assessed his reaction to the accusation, his reaction to the words "let's go to the Police and seek help"... Same thing by talking to the daughter afterwards. In this scenario either the partner or the daughter may have started to act weird, giving her a clue about who has something to hide.

Recipe: A tender piece of pork, cut in in pieces. Marinate for 15 minutes in soy sauce and 1/4 tbsp black pepper.
