Let's not climb on the bandwagon that mental illness is not a real thing and there is no place for meds, though granted sometimes they are over prescribed without proper diagnosis and compliant are therapy. I know I've been struggling for almost 30 years. On top of being married to a narcissist. At least my kids are grown. I'm just starting to prepare all the details to entry divorce. I'm glad I found this sub for support, information and tap into my brother's energy.

I'm 63M, 64 F, 35 years married, 2 adult children Just started the actual process today after a 20+ year contemplation period. Stayed way too long for the sake of the kids, but on reflection, it was the worst financial decision I could have made. I was forced into retirement 3 years ago and can only find part-time work under $20k a year. All my savings are in IRA or inheritance. No career prospects at my age or in the local area of $100k+ like 15 years ago. She hasn't paid a bill in 30 years, no…

I'm just starting this process, which I put off for 20+ years for my kids' sake initially, but I have been stuck in the last 5 years due to the fear and financial hit I'm going to have to deal with. I'm 63 and was forced into retirement 3 years ago with no projects for any real income for the next 5 years. I've really made a big mistake financially and mentally putting the inevitable off so long. I've paid 90% of all the bills for 30 years while she has neither contributed nor even offered to pa…

I'm starting the process of finding a lawyer after 35 years of marriage. I find this sub very supportive and informative. Just wish there was a sub-sub group for those of us no longer with kids. My kids are grown so child support and custody are no longer an issue. I considered leaving 25 years ago but everything I investigated said the kids would be bad off, plus my spouse would probably taken them "back home" where she grew up and I would be a wreck if I just saw them in the summers and in hol…

My adult daughter recognizes how unhappy I've been for years to a narcissistic bully and even told me to do what will make me happy when I was considering a move by myself for a lucrative job in Southern California It was a big moment that cemented the relationship I now have with my daughter.

I'm right there with you, buddy, and I'm finally getting ready to take back my life and happiness. I've been in a loveless relationship for 30 of 34 years. I considered divorce many times but did not want to be a weekend dad or lose my kids to my wife going to the opposite coast to be with her family. Now that they are fully grown and I'm approaching retirement, it's my turn. She has already financially broken me as I have not been able to find work in my area. We are well positioned for retirem…
