Fucking spot on. Thats a great point and not even something id thought of regarding joint pain. I'll use that for more motivation and focus I used the 60 DoD tip yesterday and askes if everything i put in my body was helping or hurting and that was useful. If that doesnt work im going to literally do the eat meals naked plan like an idiot. That gives me a few tools to handle this. Im gonna get this. I know i overeat due to anxiety and depression at times as well as habit and laziness. Eating tur…

Oxygen deprivation seems to cause cancer cell growth. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/media/releases/how_cancer_stem_cells_thrive_when_oxygen_is_scarce_ Do masks deprive you of oxygen? Who knows for sure? Studies probably show both. I get headaches when I wear them all day. That's enough evidence for me. Mask wearing and pandemic policy have greatly overstepped their bounds in this situation, IMO. Reminds me of doctors recommending cigarette brands back in the day.

This is strangely out of character with you. Are you aggravated that you are one of the more liberal guys on this sub? Genuinely asking. Liberals tend to give heed and follow the directions of others in different fields, "experts", if you will. But there are only a few fields where that data or knowledge is stable. Health is not one of them. Every social science is a joke to a degree. History is a story more than a fact. Having unstable data is fine. That's what science is supposed to do, find f…

I've recently thought about this as well. We all want a "prescription" for life, but the moment someone gives it to us we reject it. Our ego/or possibly just humanity, prefers autonomy over all advice/prescriptions. It's difficult to accept that as you improve yourself, it can be a very lonely journey. I want others to join me on the journey, but in offering a prescription, I am doing them a disservice. If it is in our nature to reject advice, I am in my good intentions, pitting their humanity a…

I hear you. Ive read that before. You cant outrun your fork. I was over on the day by 150 calories. I didnt want to follow my previous trajectories of shruggging off my failure to adhere to my own rules. So i did did about 15 minutes of kettlebell swings. I didnt care for it much. I was on point today with my nutrition. Didn't want to be in the garage swinging again at 9pm tonight.

I'll check it out. Kamal Ravikant's Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It was the final catalyst for me. I'd recommend it to anyone that is struggling to accepting their self, loving their self, or feeling like they need to reach a certain threshold of self esteem or income level or physical level or what have you before they can START loving their self. You can start now.

Thanks man. I have been giving it a few days before I replied, curious to know if it is sticking. I just keep repeating "I love myself" and keep smiling. I'm in a bit of a lala phase where everything is extremely pleasant to me. But damn, I love the hell out of myself and it just so easily extends to my family as well. My wife says, "I love the new you." And I'm happy to hear it, but literally, I was already happy, her saying it wasn't anything I didn't already know or need to hear. Before I'd h…

Have you recorded your squat? I was having knee pain on the heavy squats. My knees were collapsing in. It doesn't take much collapse once it gets heavier weights to strain your ligaments. My knees were collapsing because my feet are flat as hell. My ankle/foot would cave in, triggering the inward knee collapse. I'm turning my feet out more than normal to compensate and working on driving my big toes into the ground to stabilize my inward collapse at the ankle. Record yourself lifting and analyze…

Ultimately this guys going to have to make up his own mind This is a good way to start practicing decision making. It's not a black and white issue. Experts have differing opinions. I'm on the side of putting one on sooner rather than later if you think it saves your body an injury(It won't as a piece of equipment, but it might as a reminder to brace your core)

Long, possibly over detailed self therapy session report coming up. Perhaps someone will take something useful from it. I stayed awake a long time last night thinking about what had happened. A week of reminders of the harm of my own complacency. I'm "stuck" on my work. I'm intentionally keeping my head down and not shaking the trees for servicing work because I'm trying to change my priorities and process to develop work for others to service, but I'm chasing my tail on that. You should not need to do more than 1x5 on the deadlift and only doing it every 5 days should be plenty to add a ton of strength. It's considered only 2nd to squat in being the best lift you can do for your body. I'm not spending a ton of time on it either. 5 reps at 145, 3 @ 205, 2 @ 275, 1 @ 325 and one working set. It's pretty quick to blow through the low weight reps. I don't spend more time between warmups than what it takes to put more weight on it. And no need to go 5x5 with it. It wrecks…

By setting very small goals I can gain self confidence as well. My self confidence is near zero like you guessed. Throughout my life i have failed so many vague or to large of goals, hopes and dreams that i now have almost zero trust in myself. I dont trust myself to even know what I want. If i begin to make very small goals, like mrp recommends, i can begin to build my trust and confidence in myself again.

Outside of external/other people validation the only thing i can think of is setting achievable goals and then doing the work to achieve the goals. By setting goals and achieving them, I would create a history of positive feedback loops that were dependant on me. This would give me self respect as well. I would be able to trust and respect my self.

I was journaling today trying to figure it out. I'm making it hard because I'm using the moment I'm in as the value indicator of what I'm doing instead of using the result as the judgment of value. Ie, when I lift and meditat, I don't ask in the middle of each, "Do I like this? Is this what I want? Is this the great meaning of life? Is this what I was born to do?" No stupid questions like that. I know meditation and lifting have huge benefits to me that don't depend on my emotions in the moment …

Great. Sounds like you are on top of it. You may already do this but I did want to add you should work up to your working sets with warm up sets. That gives you a bit more volume on the deadlift but doesn't tax your nervous system as hard. Say something like 1x5 @ 125, 1x3 @ 165x, 1x2 @ 195, 1x1 @ 210 and then 1x5 at 235. Don't deadlift every workout. Skip atleast 4 days between deadlift days and add 5 lbs each workout. You'll move up weight fast. And if you never have, make sure you are taking …

I dont think we can blame height yet. There isnt enough weight on the bar for that. He needs to eat more. 3500 calories a day at your age and height and weight. And dont 5x5 the deadlift. Just try 1x5 every other workout and keep adding 5lbs each workout. You will get to 300lbs+ much quicker that way. Deadlift taxes your nervous system and its not necessary to lift alot of volume while you are still early stages lifting(imo)

I get confused in the in between of listening to other's experiences and advice and doing my own thing. My own thing hasn't worked so great so far. This is a place to keep myself accountable, but as a Nice Guy, how do I…

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds as though I am making a mistake to abandon OYS. I will keep it up. And just keep getting banned in the meantime. Heh.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. If you really think that is beneficial, I'll consider doing that.

OYS #9 Age 39. Married/together 19 years. 3 kids I'm wasting my time and everyone else's time here until I finish the sidebar. I'm just guessing at ideas and concepts. Not having completed sidebar at this point is lazy. I'll finish out the sidebar and be back. I'm continuing to lift and STFU in the meantime.

Im leaning towards that as well. Im not planning on entering any weightlifting competitions so what you said makes sense to me.

Something is very fishy here and it's not her is my bet. She learned something or realized something about you. "you killed her" is not hamstering, imo. You aren't being honest with us or yourself. Seems like you want us to validate you instead of asking what we think. If you wanted real advice you have to include all the ugly details about yourself

Yeah, same conclusion I came to. I'm trying to internalize these RP lessons, which are in reality just listening to my own internal desires and ideas and then acting on them.

She had a baby a week ago? And you are pushing for sex? This is the dumbest question I've ever seen on here. Would you like someone to ram a bowling ball up your ass and then ask if you are ready to do it again next week? Actually, don't answer that.

I reread this thing like 5 times before I posted trying to figure out what felt wrong about the cleaning situation I described, and I just realized I was still in her frame. If I'm wondering whose frame I'm in, then it's proably 98% likely I'm not in my own. I am definitely giving a fuck instead of DNGAF. If I DNGAF I would have never considered what she was trying to accomplish that evening or the why of what she was doing or if I should withhold/etc. I would just do whatever I wanted at any po…

You need to stop with all your silly jokes and funny ha ha comments. I know from personal experience what that is. Your ego is trying to deflect the criticism and make light of it. It's not honesty. You are trying to shield yourself from being run over by the truth. Let your guard down and let this collision happen head on. Acknowledge your faults and then pick yourself up.

Well said. More thorough than my reply but I completely agree. I liked the emphasis on different targets and long term goals. That's a good reminder for me to set my own course.

I've been thinking about this question for the last several hours and I see what you are getting at. I THINK that the lifting is a clean goal that I'm doing for me because I like what I'm seeing results wise and learning about myself. I think I would continue lifting if I lived in a hut in the middle of Alaska. But I could be walking a thin line here. Your question has made me look closer at myself and question whether there is still a larger part of me than I am willing to admit that is wanting…

I don't know. I've began to think on it a bit but don't know because I don't trust myself. I was listening to Jordan Peterson and he was saying he works with people that have been trained to be so agreeable they don't know what they want out of life if you ask them. An extremely disagreeable person easily knows what he wants but an extremely agreeable person has become so non assertive they don't even know what they want and so he works with them to become more assertive in small things. I'm cur…

Your wife sounds like an amazing woman and you sound like a complete self anointed, no entry exam needed, no bar to pass, no qualifications neccesary, the Bible told me so, head of the household douche. Though you are constantly tearing her down, I literally haven't read a single thing you have written about her that would make me think she has a problem. In fact she sounds very feminine and exactly what a woman should be. It's all you. Don't talk about her again. If you like the philosophical s…

Why should anyone answer(spoon feed) you answers to your questions when 98% of what you are asking is answered in the sidebar? Read the entire sidebar, lift, and STFU and then if you don't understand, ask again. There ARE dumb questions if you don't read the material.

From everything I've read you are lifting too many sets on the deadlift for a novice lifter. Is there a reason you aren't 1x5 like SL and SS suggest? Squat is technical/takes more coordination than other lifts. Are you taking videos of yourself squatting?

STFU, lift, sidebar. You obviously don't do all three currently. You don't realize you are still 98% beta bluepill. You still want your mommy and daddy to validate/approve everything for you. I'll bet your whole life you have needed someone to validate your decisions. Someone taught you that. Fine. It happens. Now it's time to STFU, LIFT, SIDEBAR. I'm guessing you have swapped out your childhood god/faith/validator for some strangers on Reddit. It's pathetic. Out of curiosity, since I noticed yo…

I've got the spreadsheet downloaded. Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like a great tool. I was half way through my day when I saw your suggestion on 2k cal a day. Ended at 2400 trying to get all my protein in. I'll start smarter tomorrow and continue to bring that calorie count down close to 2k.

I used the wrong acronym. It should be TWOTSM/The Way of the Superior Man. I'll give your walking suggestions a try. It's definitely not something I'd normally do or be comfortable with historically but I'm digging the idea. You are right on the initiations. And I JUST read in Book of Pook to stop to worrying about it. I don't know anything about TDEE. I'll look into it and figure it out.

OYS -2 Age-39 married/ltr 19 years. 3 kids. Body Weight - I had not been weighing and u/johneyapocalypse called me out. The SS coach I had said just use a tape to measure my belly. If it stays the same or drops and lifts continue to climb that’s a good thing and enough. But I wasn’t doing that either. Now I am. Waist - 40 inches at belly button. I don’t have a big concern about my weight at the moment. I just want to lift heavier things and eat plenty of good food/protein. I don’t see myself wan…

I am not an expert but I've not read anything that would suggest you should be trying to 5x5 your DL at this point in your lifting progress. Both SS and SL recommend 1x5 for DL as a novice

Thanks for the reply. Extremely helpful. I shouldn't explain the bench press. Instead just STFU. Heh. Good genes in pec attachment would be my best guess. When I started lifting I hurt my knees squatting incorrectly and took off a couple weeks. Had some rotator cuff impingement in shoulders OHPing incorrectly and took off a few weeks on them. Hurt my back later squatting. Bench is the only lift I've been able to do consistently. Initially started with SL(swapped to SS a month or two later) and h…

Marriage- We grew up knowing each other. Conservative families. We were both each other's first. Sexually, it's basically a dead bedroom. 1-2x a month at most.
