Generally, I too dislike "awareness charities". Everyone knows about breast cancer. We don't need another 3 day walk to alert people to the dangers of breast cancer. However, I think the number of women who don't realize how great a threat heart attacks is to them, means that an awareness campaign is needed.

When someone thinks about heart attacks, they think about pain in the chest, left shoulder and arm. Women are actually more likely to have pain in the neck and jaw, rather than shoulder. Hopefully wife goggles work their magic as I age. :) I meet my wife in college. We dated for 3 years, have been married for 19 this November. I have a photo of her, taken at college, on the book shelf in my office. She was probably 19-20 years old at the time the photo was taken. Even today I see her just like she is in the photo. It's like all abusive relationships. The perpetrator likes the feeling of power out of abusing their victim and/or they have pent up rage/hate inside them that they want to express. These victims are an ideal outlet for this hate/rage abuse, as they aren't going to fight back or leave. Often the victims response to increased abuse is to try to placate the perpetrator to a larger degree. It's really a self fueling engine.

I believe the law states that both parents have to consent to the paternity test. If one parent doesn't want the test, it is illegal for the other to have it done. Even if the testing takes place outside of France. This is how I remember the law working. It's possible I am wrong.

That's not how I read it. the lifetime best marathon times of the elite women and men participating in the LA field. The word "participating" is used, so it doesn't seem to mesh with course records being used. Instead, it seems to me that they use the best marathon time (of their entire racing career) of the individuals actually racing in that years race to compute the handicap. I get that the gender challenge is a race inside the race.

the gender challenge simply compares the male and female winner to the male and female course record, and is awarded to whoever does best compared to that record. That isn't how the challenge times are computed according to this site. Each year the time handicap of the “Challenge” is calculated using the differences in the lifetime best marathon times of the elite women and men participating in the LA field.

Why bother putting a policy into place that is obviously just going to need to be revised or sacked right away? Because it's easier to put into place something that's relatively gentle on the senses. Golf has the handicap system to compensate for skill and make for a competitive play (kinda). So this staggered start isn't unheard of. The problem I see is that the "handicap" is based on the course record not individual times. edit... That picture looks to be taken from the Imperial Palace On Las Vagas Blvd. If you google map it, viewing from top down, part of the Imperial Palace looks kinda like a "7". The picture was taken from the Horizonal part of the '7'. This picture is confusing because the building in the center is actually 2 buildings.
