It is most certainly not impossible, but given the fact that I am at work (and I believe I can speak for most girls with this) it puts you at a GREAT disadvantage. It is really hard to not come off as creepy when hitting on a girl while she's working. I would think the only way to possibly be successful is to just be friendly and have small talk while a girl is helping you/ringing you up.
