I also worked in both types of prisons and agree with what you say. Female on female assaults can be very brutal but mostly what I saw was verbal/emotional torment. For instance: we had a woman who was convicted for using attack dogs to punish her children. While she was never assaulted (at least while I was there) the other inmates would often just bark at her.
