It's not the least painful time to get it done. Unlike adults, babies can't go under general anesthesia so they have to be awake for the entire cutting. Just because babies don't verbally say "this fucking hurts" doesn't mean it doesn't fucking hurt. And if your friend had such a terrible time with his circumcision, then shouldn't we try very hard to make sure the least amount of people have to experience that pain? Seems asinine to force someone to undergo a painful experience just to save them…

There are no realistic arguments for it, only rationalizations. Those include that it's believed to be easier to clean or maybe looks better or prevents the rare infection here or there, but honestly it mostly just comes down to tradition for them.

The majority of American men alive today are cut because circumcision was much more popular in the past. It is not as popular today as it was when all the adults were born. So if your son was born today and you cut him, he would not be among the 90% of other cut boys his age, he would be among the <55%. Men need men’s rights and women need women’s rights. We could spend days arguing about who faces more injustice, but it doesn’t really matter. No health organization in the world recommends you to routinely cut baby boys. Some condemn it entirely, like Denmark.
