Just respond like a normal person would. "I couldn't make it on such short notice. But let's try again" Unless you want to drop her for this, in which case do that. There's no "right thing to do," it's all about your own estimation of the value of your interactions with her.

This is the best advice here. Your mom can't be saved by you. And you aren't responsible for your siblings, she is. If you love your siblings and want to help them, claw your way out of this living situation for yourself, and do something for them when you have more power. Focus on yourself for now.

I go to a really fratty university. The amount of undergrads I predict making shitty wages in 10 years because they go out all the time is staggering. And their hyper aggressive personalities are good for getting laid, but won't help them in their professional lives unless they smarten up, if they even get that far. Defeatist bullshit. If you're convinced that this is true, then find some other way to feel pride as a man. But men who are average-looking are not hopeless.
