He put his own little twist on it (and it still isn't certain whether or not he was the first to incorporate social perception into the scale). That's just completely over-thinking/analyzing. If she's cute, go talk to her! It doesn't matter where she ranks on any scale. To simplify it even more, in the moment, use a scale of 0-1. 0- not interested. 1- go for it! It sounds like OP is on the right track.
