I will say as far as working out it's always best to find and use somebody else's tested and proven program, relying on yourself as a beginner / intermediate to create workout programs isn't a smart move. You have to eat above TDEE to gain, but gaining includes fat. You're just trying to show muscle. Muscle is the most visible without fat, hence not eating above TDEE. Long term, it makes sense to eat above TDEE until you have extra fat + muscle and then cut the fat away, but you're on a little bit of a time crunch.

If you're gonna be bulking in January, I'd suggest eating at TDEE and working out like crazy for a while and then maybe cut for a few weeks, just burn some fat. If you want veins, drink gallons of water a day for a week to over-hydrate and then cut your water consumption to about 0. Within a few days you'll get some veins popping. Good luck.

It's also that others' approval generates happiness as well, not just doing what we want. Others' approval can involve everything from women we want to fuck to trying to get a raise.
