There are 16 states that still recognize common law marriages, and here's a nice little loophole for you: There is one catch: if you spend time in a state that does recognize common law marriage, “hold yourself out as married,” and then return or move to a state that doesn’t recognize it, you are still married (since states all recognize marriages that occurred in other states).

I agree, such a slippery slope though. Start having sex with a condom on, woman asks you to take it off cause she's into that sort of thing, accuses you of sexual assault when she gets pregnant and you have no way of proving otherwise. I think the point is that cases like Brock Turner's are relatively uncommon. Cases where a woman gets off lighter than a man would, or even lighter than the law says they should, are absolutely not uncommon.
