Abusive behavior from her. A need from her to control my behavior and mold me into what she wanted me to be. Dead bedroom for years. Resentment. What broke the straw was me getting therapy and realizing I was in denial about it all. Once the veil in front of my eyes was lifted, I couldn’t go back. In some ways, we had already been over, it just took one of us having the courage to pull the plug. She even said so herself, that she wouldn’t have been able to end it, despite threatening it for year…

All of the above notes are true, and every man needs to hear them and heed them before even entering a relationship, let alone getting married. I’ve experienced them all and more. It’s why I eventually decided to divorce my STBXW. That relationship left me isolated and afraid of people, but hopefully with time I’ll get back out there. I’ll add - if she ever threatens you or if she escalates and actually hurts you out of spite, it’s time to end the relationship for your safety.

You’re not alone, man. I’m going through this, too, although our relationship was much shorter at 6 years. It’s scary as shit, but it’s the only way to live a good, authentic life, and in my case it’s great to envision a life free of her control and abuse. Rip that bandaid off. Go for it. It’s going to suck. Hopefully you two can do this amicably, but even if not, it’s still better than living in a loveless relationship someone who stifles you. What have you to lose?

I suffered from the simp mentality towards my own wife (then girlfriend) early on as well. It always takes two, whether to sink the ship or to build it to last, we all played our part. I look at it as a lesson learned, I can’t fix what we have because she’s basically treated me like I’m the worst enemy in her life, so I have to act accordingly.

Just to give an alternative perspective on that, albeit with someone who is too young to go through menopause - it really comes down to knowing them. In my case, once my wife started treating me poorly and abusing me, she had made it very clear that she agreed when I told her straight up that she doesn’t treat anyone else in her life as poorly and abusively she does me. She basically said I deserved what she does to me and that everything I do just pisses her off to the point of losing all contr…

Men suffer alone, it is in our nature to take it all on because we don’t want others to suffer with us.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
