If he's generally open to it that's great. That is half the battle. I guess if it were me, I would approach it gently but firmly. "I am really struggling here. I cannot live in this type of situation long term." Let him know what's going on with you, but don't put it all off on him. Technically hoarding furniture isn't immoral or illegal, it doesn't make him a bad person, BUT it may make him very difficult to live with. Maybe impossible. I think I would move out. Not break up, but move out. Or t…

Man, I think that depends a lot on your partner. Is therapy a taboo subject to him? Some people, especially guys, tend to think of therapy like its witchcraft.

Hoarders come in all forms. My mom had a friend who COULD NOT PASS UP A GOOD DEAL ON A TABLE. EVER. She had so many tables in her house and shed and back yard. She got them from thrift stores and yard sales and such. Her house was clean and pretty beyond the weird table obsession. People are weird.

My nails are thin and brittle. I can't grow them out at all, plus they get torn up when working. I'm also trying to learn guitar which is impossible with even slightly long nails (HOW DOES DOLLY DO IT????!!) I just keep them short and clean and try to keep them moisturized in order to keep the skin around the nails looking nice. I guess that would be my best advice. Use a good hand cream. I use an almond and milk hand cream by Burt's Bees. Edit: Also, I can't use acrylics because they make me …

(European here) Unfortunately, OP is under the impression that being legally married will grant her the ability to have the doctors share medical info with her as the spouse. She believes this, as many do, because the law USED to work that way. A few years ago that was all changed through the new HIPPA laws. Being the spouse doesn't grant you much in the medical world…

Maybe not in every situation, but as a general rule I think it certainly holds true. I personally would never date a guy who was divorced or who had kids. Could you dream up a guy worthy to be an exception to the rule? Sure, but is it smart to rewrite rules based on exceptions? If so, you would have to throw all RP philosophy out the window.

I hated kids until I was about 20. Also, keep in mind that you can train your own kids not to me parasites on the planet. I partially hated kids because when I looked around I saw all these awfully behaved children who just ran wild. Children are tough, yea, but they don't have to be as bad as some people will lead you to believe. You CAN raise kids to be an overwhelmingly enjoyable, net positive, aspect of your life.

It's probably not helping that you see each other around occasionally and work for the same company. I don't think most people can get over someone while still staying in contact with them, even if the contact in minimal. If it were me (and it was at one point), I would see myself as having two reasonable options, either find a way to cut contact completely, or give it another go. One of those options is very much within your control. The other requires some cooperation from him. That may help y…

It's just something to consider. The trend is for parents to want to do MORE, give MORE to their kids than they had. Even when the parent didn't have a particularly rough life to begin with, people naturally want their kids to have better. That's great and all, but you two need to make sure you both have similar understandings of what "better" means.

The fact that he's okay with this is so bizarre. My mom texted me Sunday morning to ask if I was coming to Church. I ignored the text. I'm a grown, 26 year old woman. I'll be there or I won't. I don't need to be checked up on. I don't need to be told what to do. Years ago when I was still at home (not in the same house, but renting from mom and dad on the same property) and mom kept opening my mail, I started having all my mail delivered to my office. It's not like I had anything to hide, but st…

Good. Very true. Just be sure not to let the exceptions blind you to the fact that there is a rule. And the rule is there for a reason. Point: Proceed with caution. Make him prove he is an exception. Don't just assume he will be because you love him.

The idea of playing second fiddle to mommy for the rest of your life should be a deal breaker to anyone. You will always be compared to her. Is that a deal breaker? He will expect to raise children in the way he was raised. If you expect more from your kids and are harder on them, is he going to see that as a positive thing? Will he think you are a bad mother?

That would make me so angry. I'd stop shopping with him or cooking for him. Either mommy can cook or I can, but it's one or the other. You have to pick. I'm an adult and I don't need any micromanaging in the kitchen.

Yea, there's ALWAYS someone prettier out there. You just have to remember that, understand that it's okay, and pick a man you can trust. And when it comes to trusting men, you need to really look at your relationship and ask why/why not? Do I trust him? No? Why? Is it an issue with him? Could the issue possibly be yours? Did he do something to earn your distrust or do you just not trust people? If he is the problem and he truly can't be trusted to remain loyal, then don't wait for him to leave y…

I think this is kind of silly because it really just depends on what your definition of a best friend is. I don't have the same relationship with my boyfriend as I do with my best girlfriend, but I still think of him as being my best buddy. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. There are lots of older couples who have had successful marriages last 50+ years, and they often would refer to each other as their best friend. This just boils down to arguing over semantics.

I think you need to define "friends." I have guy friends and girl friends, but the relationships I have with them are not the same. I grew up in a small town and I have known most of my guy friends.... and their sisters, and their parents and their aunts and cousins.... since I was a little kid. Do I hang out with these guys one on one and confide in them regarding my boyfriend or other personal things? No, but we like to gather together, get sushi, catch up. Wow, that's kind of a shocking story. I can't imagine a woman not wanting to play with her child. But I get your point. I definitely try to always be supportive of his big picture goals. There are little things that I don't care about so much, but I think those things are more trivial and it's okay to have differences in some areas. This would be a deal breaker. My boyfriend and I have been together for a few years and I got certain things out of the way early on. Yea, 110 is probably not where you want to be. I'm 5'2" and 110/115 is my healthy weight. If you are curvy naturally (I'm not using curvy as a nice word for fat, but like, large breasts, large but toned rear, with a thin waist) then the number on the scale is going to be a bit higher. I'm not shaming men. I'm telling you what I see off putting about you based on what you wrote. In general, whining is unsavory. Saying that you know you are the common denominator and still insisting that the problem is everybody else is so silly it's hard to believe you are serious. EDIT: And yes, the advice is a bit general, but I don't know you personally so it's hard to tell you anything specific other than you seem a little angry through your writing.

Focus less on fashion. Focus more on coming off as less angry and bitter. That would probably help. Most girls are going to shy away from men who seem to hate women. Just the same way a guy would steer clear of a woman who believed that all men are dirty, raping, pigs. You sound like the opposite equivalent of a pink haired femanazi. A big thing for me with my boyfriend is respecting his time. We see each other almost every day after I get off work, but I am careful not to let myself get to spoiled and start expecting it. He does have a lot to do and he is studying for an exam, so when I ask him if he plans to come over I make sure not to pout or act put off if he says he needs to stay home. What do you mean when you say "moody?" Is he just frustrated and less playful? You can start by knowing when you can help and when you can't. I can't help him work related stuff, he's a chemical engineer and I struggled to pass college algebra, so I just keep my distance and let him do his thing. I get it, the harsh tone of my post makes some people instinctively want to defend her. But some people are genuinely deserving of ill opinion. The fact that I sound harsh doesn’t really prove that she must be a saint. And Its been two years with lots of breaks in between. Sounds like a recipe for a future divorce if the do end up married. And we don’t believe in divorce, which means he really would be stuck with her. No disrespect taken, and I certainly don’t mean any towards you either. I have…

Well apparently he’s not happy. Based on his messages to the friend. He’s trapped, guilt tripped. And as I said, she was initially welcomed, she became unwelcome when she tried to control him and convince him he was abused.

Let me make this more clear. Nobody has said anything nasty to him about her. I vented my thoughts after two years of this madness, to an Internet forum. Not to him. Perhaps someone else has been in this situation. Perhaps something could have been said to them that would have helped. It may not be my business directly, but he’s my brother and I care about him and I don’t want to see his life get ruined by this person who makes him miserable. It causes issues between him and out Mom when this gi…

I have a harsh opinion of a person who has no doubt earned it. That's the only thing you know about me. You are making brand generalizations on a person's character because... you are offended by anything that isn't fluffy and nice? What's that say about you? For the record, we were all really excited that he was dating someone at first and we were really nice to her. She has earned our ill opinion a thousand times over by being controlling and psychotic. I am under no obligation to praise a per…

I think I justified my comments about her looks. I don't dislike her because she looks weird, as I said, she could be pretty if she took care of herself, and that's the whole point. The way she looks is a direct result of her other bad habits and possibly a mental problem. She refuses to do anything but sit on the couch, only eats chicken nuggets, is sick all the time, and expects my brother to dote on her. If she has an eating disorder, that's not something my brother can fix. He's not a therap…

Okay, my roommate has a scar on her cheek, right on the ball of her cheek bone. Its fairly large and noticeable, some sort of burn from childhood. Then, her nose has a birth defect. It's also pretty noticeable. But you know what? She has a great personality and a very athletic body, she is self conscious about her arms and chest, her arms are very thi and she has small boobs, but she plays sports and has these amazing legs! And her butt? Yea. She is 26, and has been married to her college boyfri…

Eh, idk about that. Which other girls? We don't all dress the same. I dress nice, my mom dresses nice, my roommate dresses nice, but our styles are not the same at all.

TPE?? But yea, I haven’t actually said that to him. It’s just something that the rest of us talk about when he isn’t around. When he’s around we pretty much just act like she doesn’t exist. We never bring her up, and if he mentions her, we just sort of ignore it. Even when she is there she just sort of stands behind him like a shadow and says nothing so we ignore her and act like she isn’t there. We have all been following the, “if you don’t have anything nice to say...” line of thinking, but we…

As for how you were immature, I'm not saying you were HORRIBLY immature. Maybe immature in a young, naive way. I think you put up with more than an older, more experienced person might have. You didn't cut it off as soon as you really should have. Again, I'm speaking from personal experience here. Also, the amount you were willing to give up is maybe a little Romeo and Juliet. Moving, quitting UNI, sacrificing time that you could be using to do something useful for yourself to sit around and wat…

Quite the opposite, I assumed you weren't from the US, because I had never heard of this "women's day" before. Sorry if my assumption of what it might have been offended you. In the US we have had a lot of crazy demonstrations called "women's marches." I didn't know if your women's day was something similar. And yea, I can understand what you mean. Like I said, it happens to the best of us. I'm not going to try to tell you that I have never allowed my emotions to get the best of me. I spent a lo…

First: what the heck is women's day? What country are you in? Are we talking about hoards of lesbians marching around NYC in pink pussy hats screaming about the patriarchy? Sounds like feminist bs to me. Second: I'm not trying to be hurtful, but i'm honestly not so sure you were as mature as you think you were in this relationship. It seems like you were a little blinded by infatuation to the problems that were probably more evident than you realize. I'm not trying to be a judgmental ass, it hap…

Depending on the two of you, your personalities and hobbies, it could be a big deal. Personally, I would never settle down with someone significantly older than me because I would worry about how much faster he would age. Being able to enjoy activities together is important in a LTR, you don't have to do everything together, if you hate golf and he loves it then that's totally fine, but you have to have something. I love physical outdoor things, hiking, camping, rafting. I would worry that one d…

Idk, unless your family is some sort of criminal gang of murderous bank robbers, I think you sound a little.... petulant child-ish? My parent's don't always support everything I do and my mom and I had a pretty toxic relationship for a while, but the answer is not always to just cut people out. You work on them. Sometimes your family doesn't support your decisions because they can see they are bad for you. My brother has a girlfriend that we all hate. He is so busy being in love with her that he…

You cut your family out to be with him? Red flag. Unless your family is absolutely HORRIBLE, a good man would never ask you to distance yourself from your family. My dad's mom hated my mom (because my mom isn't catholic), but my mom never tried to separate my dad from his family or prevent us from seeing our grandparents. Eventually, after 28 years of marriage and five kids, my grandmother finally accepted the fact that my mom wasn't going anywhere and their relationship got a lot better. A guy …

None of these requests are crazy, but I still feel that a contract is weird. Most of it should be common sense. I feel like you should pick a person who respects you, your belongings, and your space, without a contract. If you need to sign an actual contract in order to get your gf/bf to cooperate with you in terms of your basic needs, then you probably shouldn’t be dating that person. The requests themselves are normal, but they should be the subject of a pre-move in together conversation. Not …

I get depressed right before I start my period, I haven’t found a way to make that not happen. What I can do, is remind myself that it’s temporary. I focus on accepting how I feel, acknowledging that it’s my hormones, and reminding myself that it’s okay to feel bummed for a few days. It’s not okay to be obnoxious to other people, but sometimes your close girl friends will understand if you just tell them, “hey, I’m all PMS depressed right now? You wanna hang out for a bit?” The key is to ask for…

I guess... I mean, we've been in a serious relationship for a year (next month, the 16th, will be a year), all this originally went down in August, things were great before that, and then things were really good after, I don't know why this has suddenly come up again with such a vengeance.

Well, there's really a lot more to it than that. He would get jealous when any other guys paid attention to me. When I would get upset because of his mixed signals, he would tell me he cared about me. I'm not saying you're wrong here, in the end, we weren't together, so maybe he had no obligation to me, but he did string me along. I'll admit that I could have put a stop to that, I could have walked away earlier. But every time I tried he would tell me how I was his best friend, that he missed me…

Whether or not drinking is feminine is up to the individual. Even if it isn't, it's not like you have to check every single box on the feminine scale in order to be a good woman. I'm pretty traditional, pretty socially conservative, but at the same time, I don't like pink, or bows, or chick flicks. My mom and dad always shared wine when my mom cooked pasta, and nothing bad ever came of it. I think there are people who shouldn't drink, sure, but I don't think it's right to throw everybody into th…

If I were you, I would go look up videos on youtube about how to find your personal style or how to make a capsule wardrobe. You don't have to actually do the capsule wardrobe thing, but they give really good tips that will help you find your style. As someone who grew up with four brothers, I know how hard it can be to suddenly try to figure out how to dress like a girl. Knowing your style is important for multiple reasons: If you know what you like, you waste less money on things you won't end…
