Have you read the book Boundaries or even better Boundaries in Marriage? I would start there. People often throw around the word boundaries but have no clue about how to implement them. An excellent point these books make about boundaries is that they are not about controlling someone else's behavior--it is way more about controlling your own. For example, if someone is screaming at you, it is not helpful to say 'stop yelling at me.; but you can say, if you continue to yell at me, I am going to …

Empowered Wife, Fascinating Womanhood. Read both if you haven't already read FW.

Traditional men seek traditional women. It would be easier if you identified as religious and/or conservative to be found by these men--but, it is not impossible. What is your social scene like right now? Where are you meeting men/being visible? Do you attend a gym? Sporting games? Bars/clubs? I think you need to invest time in getting to know yourself. You are first year in college, so maybe 18 or 19? You have some time. Be wise about the company you keep--and find some like minded females asap…

I agree with this. The man I dated from month 1 he would know in a few months if he wanted to marry me or not and if he did not, we would break up, and I loved that he said this because I thought, good! So many others would start out with all these "i love yous' and "i think you are the one' and couldn't last 3-4 months We started dating mid-December. Mid march, went ring shopping, early June--engaged, 1 year later, 2 weeks away from marriage.

This is honestly a blessing in disguise. He did not even string you along or put up a fight. Sounds actually pretty mature despite his immaturity in not being able to answer you. He at least realized he shouldn't pretend to offer you what he can't guarantee.

Hello! I am going to recommend some books. First, have you read the book Boundaries, or even Boundaries in marriage? It sounds like you have some boundary issues with in-laws. While you can't control their behavior, you can control your response to it and establish your own personal boundaries (be it with your words, time spent with them, etc.) I would figure out what those are for you and your husband. You can also read so many wonderful books listed here, perhaps the Empowered Wife would be a …

Tim Ferris has some good conversation starter questions. I second what someone said about listening to podcasts. Have you listened to any Jordan Peterson? You could find a series you like and tell him what you learned or ask some of that. Some of the Tim Ferris questions are things like, what purchase under 100 has recently changed your life for the better, what is your favorite failure, what message would you put on a billboard, etc. What news do you like that he finds irrelevant Why do you say…

You need to get rid of dating apps for a while if you are struggling with any form of mania/impulsivity. You might possibly also just not be able to self-regulate enough to use dating apps. If this promise to God or to yourself really matters, come up with a plan to not break promises to yourself. Write it down, and find real accountability.

Yes, I don't think the word courtship is being used in the right sense here, which is sad, because this just leaves readers to be very very confused. Courtship means chastity, not having sexual intercourse but then using photos for this purpose is basically a loophole here. True courtship is done in a monogamous setting where you are discerning marriage. I don't really know what is going on here. Last, asking strangers for advice on which guy to marry is definitely not the point of courtship. In…

There is a lot going on here. You are waiting until marriage and believe in courtship but are 50/50 on if you want to have children? Usually these things do not go together. Before you decide to marry ANYONE you need to know if you want to have children or not because that will become a real deal breaker if you two are not on the same page. You use the word 'courtship' but I am not sure you use it in the same sense as other cultures. Traditionally, he would not have already proposed unless you w…

Hello! Fellow Christian here. I am sorry you are going through this. Engagement is an exciting and a stressful time. I am taking into account your age and wondering if you feel pressure to rush this. 5 months is a very short time to get engaged and this guy has a lot of red flags. I am going to call them red flags, because if you mention them here, I think they are bothering you. There are no green flags so far other than he is a Christian (and if so, for how long? People do not become virtuous …

Many others have already given great advice, so not sure how much I can add here. First off, I am sorry you are in this dilemma. I realize this might be very painful and stressful, and while many might not first acknowledge that--please know I don't think there is a person reading this who doesn't see you are in a very difficult position. That being said, a lot of the advice you will read might also be a bit harsh/blunt. I apologize in advance for that. People in this group generally have writte…

You might want to consider a job at a church too--children's ministry, jr. high ministry, secretary--this could also possibly be a good job depending on the size and population of the church.

This is the answer. If you are a Christian, 18, and have some form of transportation--you should be hitting that church 3x per week (and maybe the gym 5). When I was your age, I went to a mega church with a thriving YA group. Between midweek service, Sunday, Friday night young adult groups, and then serving on Saturdays to homeless--I met tons and tons of people. Don't be solely focused on men--make friends with all kinds of people (women your age, married couples, single older women etc.) peopl…

I can understand how you feel as I had a male friend I felt similarly toward for about 5 years. However, once I got engaged--he all but fall off the face of the earth. He also is not coming to my wedding (and before, I always pictured him as basically being my brother/best man status). Although this is all anecdotal--I think you need to listen to yourself (not me, not even anyone here who is just highlighting things you already said you feel): you aren't interested in him romantically. If you we…

Take a look at Through the Eyes of a Lion. It's about Levi Lusko, a Christian pastor, dealing with his daughter's death. She died when she was I think 5 or so, on Christmas eve, athsma attack. He is more evangelical/born again Christian (not sure if you lean that way) but it is a very good book regardless. I read it when he first wrote it years ago, but I think it is one of the better Christian books on grief. This one is very approachable and applicable to real life, not a long read. I would al…

The top voted comment does a nice breakdown of your post. My charitable advice would be--stop dating. At least a few months off are needed at this point because things are not going well here. I am unsure why you are in this group or how long you have been here, but I would go back to basics. Read some of the basic book recommendations or shorter blog posts (re-read the dating advice for women in 20s and also in 30s because you are approaching 30 and will likely need to start fresh from both of …

This is a very legitimate reason to NOT date right now, and I commend you for taking your time. I already commented above with my recommendations, but now that I see you are also grieving, you can consider joining a grief group in a church (if you are religious and if you could see that helping you). I am not sure your background, but I could recommend some good books on grief from a Christian perspective.

What RPW books have you read? If you have not already read some of the ones mentioned in the Wiki, I would recommend: act like a lady think like a man, The Empowered Wife (or even the Surrendered Wife by Laura Doyle), and listening to some podcast/youtube of similar style. Everyone already mentioned cooking, cleaning, church and hobbies--so I will add on a little. Look at your wardrobe. Do you have clothes that fit you well, are well kept, that you can create different feminine looks for? Do you…

He is not high value. I am sorry you are going through this. Leave him, then go nun mode for a while. I know you are 28 and might feel like time is ticking, but 5 years with a man like that will do a number on your headspace. You gotta get away from this man and men who think this way. A real HVM would not say you are LV. That is manipulation. Going forward though--learn this lesson. Don't spend this number of years with a man who isn't marrying you (if that is what you want) and vet for a bette…
