Wait, so you’re mad your wife is trying to over influence or muddle their young minds, but only because she’s getting in the way of you doing the same thing? And then you want to change her mind too? Have you read the side bar?

“I take that new mom gut of hers… tickling her.. asking when I’ll see her in the gym” This woman must like you because this is cringe worthy. Why do you think sex is off the table with a sick kid, but massages and chit chat aren’t?

Correct. Right in front of my face and I missed it. I viewed it as a new perspective, but it’s just a new strategy. My last paragraph could be dissected many ways. I’ll address the truth: I wasn’t congruent in my initiation. I didn’t want sex, so I didn’t initiate with real desire. It was an empty action. I would have been better served just shutting TFU and moving on with my night. Only value was no apologizing or back tracking from my (incongruent) actions for this Nice Guy.

You are exactly right and it makes sense to my logical brain, which helps. I rarely even spend my side hustle money on fun stuff, which I am currently changing. The unexpected expenses (currently sitting in a hospital for an unexpected surgery for my kid) always fuck me up. This time I’m choosing to be grateful that she is most likely going to be okay and proud that I have built up the resources to not let this affect our day to day lives. This is a shit plan. You’re telling yourself it’s more effective to just “eat more bro” because it’s easier, not because you actually believe it’s better. People always say they don’t have time to track calories, but somehow they have time to stagnate for months. If you’re going to be in, be in. This I’ll wing it and see what happens strategy is the strategy of a child, not a man.

Attitude of gratitude I will work on this - I know you’re right. What you wrote about giving to your wife last really resonates with me. I’ve had to review all of my actions towards her, bc many had covert contracts behind them. Acting only with “pure” intentions is the goal; I’ve found I’m good at lying to myself at times. Giving with no expectations is something I have started to practice, but need to do with more consistency. Starting with strangers makes a lot of sense. And you’re right, it …

Abundance mindset You’re right. It’s definitely a perspective thing more than a reflection of reality. I still budget and spend as if I were the same poor kid I grew up as. There’s some value to that in regards to security, but I want more than just security. I made a list awhile back and I need to revisit it. Gratitude certainly impacts me in the moment. If I practice it more frequently, I’d bet it will make a difference. Giving it away is the hardest thing for me. I can check the boxes of the …

Sounds like there’s no question that you believe in God. That’s a good start. Wish I was there with you. Your points about spiritual growth make sense to me. My experience with community for community’s sake is not great. Being part of a weak community, unless you are lifting them up(which brings its own challenges), seems to lead to either resentment of that community or an adoption of their ways. Is there a way to achieve the spiritual growth you want in a community that reflects your ideals? …

I’ve noticed this a ton since I started reading the sidebar. One guy told me he would be in trouble if he grew his beard without asking his wife. I just stared in disbelief. It’s a real problem and I do think it’s most glaring in church settings, but I may be biased. I am interested in your thoughts about what it adds to your life whenever you come to a conclusion.

Good point. What I should have said is that I’m going off the beaten path. In no way do I portray that attitude when I initiate or try new things, nor do I think they’re bad. Just way different than I typically do! Thanks for the rec - definitely will check it out.

A combination of things at once makes sense. I was tired AND I felt fear. When I feel that way it’s much easier to skip an initiation because it’s justified (in my head). I don’t know you at all, other than some of your posts, so this may all be way off: what do you like about life? Your response here read like there is deep dissatisfaction and like nothing would have made you happy. Frame You must know my wife - she loves those little phrases. Not taking responsibility is the key. I’ve been thinking a lot about how this is all unsustainable if I’m doing it to get a response or behaviors from her. This is where frame and OI intersect. I’m building this frame because it’s what I want out of life for me, regardless of how she responds. It’s easy to get caught up in the success of more sex and lose sight that that is really just a small part of this. Appreciate the reminder. In…

I/wmp_v2 is exactly correct here. Be proactive. Plan, make, and enter your meals in the morning as you weigh them out or the night before if that’s more convenient. Then you’ll know where your numbers stand and don’t have to guess about anything. It can be inconvenient, but it’s in line with your goals, so do it if you are serious about them.

On days you didn’t initiate, was it due to fear or you just had a busy day/fell asleep/had other plans? To me, once you’re OI, you initiate when you want to because of desire. However, if your hamster was getting in the way of initiating and those were just excuses, then that is an opportunity to improve. I initiate daily because historically my self worth has been wrapped up in how others respond to me. This exercise is to experience rejection and realize it doesn’t fucking matter. Added benefi…

Style: If you know the general look you’re going for (subtle/mature), Pinterest is a nice resource to use to figure out how to put outfits together. Type in general phrases like “layer clothes men” and it’ll give you a nice variety of outfits that you can piece together at different stores, usually for a much more affordable price than the links they provide.

I didn’t explain that well. I don’t feel anger towards her anymore. What I mean is, she doesn’t deserve a terse response so I don’t want to jump to being combative. I’m using a bit more humor in response to these to combat her anxiety. Your second point is spot on. My previous OYS posts have discussed my validation “needs”. Becoming my own judge is slowly addressing this. It’s taking some time to unwind this much conditioning. To answer your last question - I can now. And to your point, I’ve bee…

I’ve read a bunch of your OYS posts and my original thought was no fucking way I could do that. Now I’m not so sure. I’ve always been a talker during sex. Now she has started talking unprompted and it’s awesome. And she is willing to do pretty much anything I ask while we are having sex. Frequency is not where I’d like it, but coming off of SSRIs may have something to do with that. Couldn’t agree more with your first point: I no longer wonder if we are going to have sex. STFU Already used this strategy and it was perfect. “Hey can you put lotion on daughters cheeks and hands but not her eyes?” 2 min later: “did you put lotion on her cheeks and hands” -> “no, just on her eyes like you asked”. It’s the latter. When I first read u/wmp_v2 response, my gut reaction (defensiveness) was to be like “nah, he missed it on this one”. “No one gives a shit about your effort”. - it’s true. There’s two answers here: it’s what I’ve always done, so now it’s expected rather than appreciated. I get shitty attitudes because I accept shitty attitudes. I also do it because it’s who I want to be as a man, regardless of the response I receive. “No one is entitled to my time or effort” - you are right. I appreciate this feedback and will act on it.

In your shoes, I’d be a bit confused by my stats as well. I’ll add more information to the discussion for context (or maybe it’s more DEERing): I have had my arm reconstructed twice, which has made gains on my bench challenging. I’ve done most powerlifting programs out there and I capped at 225. I focus on a lot of single leg exercises, as I had surgery on each knee in college and want to keep them healthy. Fitness isn’t easy for me - I do it because it’s hard. I dread most of my workouts, but I also recognize the value in multiple areas in my life. You are right, of course. I’m not sure how long it will take for this mindset to become my baseline, but I am seeing changes week to week as I get practice. I appreciate this input. In the past, Multiple people have told me to tell her I like it no matter what. I’ve always refused that option. Good to know it’s not way off base. She told me two months ago all she wanted for her bday was a haircut. I told her that was a necessity, not a gift - just book it. She never does things for herself. So I booked it for after our activities were done because then I could be with the kids and she didn’t have to worry about planning childcare on a different day.…

In fairness, if he’s a David Goggins type who can crash and then maintain forever because his mindset has changed, I completely agree with you. I would feel urgency to change if I were that big and would do everything in my power to speed up the time frame. This man is deloading when he feels good, which is not when a deload is indicated. You deload because you’re tired and beat to shit from lifting hard. You don’t go setting PRs, which if I read correctly, is what he did. It makes me think that…

I’m learning much of this info now and won’t comment on most things you said… but this shit I do know: < 1000 calories a day is you rushing the process. It interferes with training, recovery, and your ability to think clearly. Further, it can lead to as much lean tissue loss as fat loss. Aka you’re close to wasting your effort in the gym. Figure out your actual BMR and then calculate how much of a deficit you want to be in. Hint: >1-2lbs loss per week isn’t ideal. When you stagnate, adjust a var…

This exact thing happened this morning about the kids lunches. I caught myself DEERing and just shut up. She was confused by that one. Read a ton of Jack10ofhearts today and realized there are many different ways to respond in these situations. Instead of forcing a response, I’m going to keep reading until I have a better grasp. Will check out the DARE post next - thanks. You are right, she needs to feel like more than mom and she responds when I lead. The problem is with me.
